UT Admn steps in to stop onion tears
Chandigarh, July 1
Irked by the high cost of onion in the market in your sector? Here is some relief for you. The UT Administration has set up a special stall at the grain and vegetable market, Sector 26, where onion, including the Nashik variety, is available at Rs 22 per kg, much below the market cost of Rs 40 per kg.
In a respite to residents from the increasing price of onion in markets across the city, the Administration has roped in the Mani Majra Cooperative Society for the purpose.
A stall has been set up opposite shop number 40 for selling onion at reasonable
rates and to check hoarding.

Three securitymen hurt as PUSU, SOI leaders clash

Unruly scenes were witnessed at Panjab University (PU) when leaders the Panjab University Students Union
(PUSU) and the Students Organisation of India (SOI) clashed over a PUSU member being allegedly forced to join the
SOI. The student leaders had gathered at help desks set up for counselling new students seeking admission to the university. The clash, that lasted over an hour, saw chairs being flung into the air and students tearing each others' clothes as the security staff of the PU made desperate efforts to end the melee.

Monsoon to hit city today: Met
Chandigarh, July 1
The monsoon is likely to hit the city in the next 24 hours, according to the Met department.
Met officials said the city received pre-monsoon showers today and recorded 9.6 mm of rainfall.
Met director Surinder Pal Singh said even though the pre-monsoon was week in the region, there were chances of the monsoon being normal.

Civic body to set up sanitation booths to redress residents’ grievances

Soon booths will be set up across the city where MC officials will be addressing the sanitation-related problems faced by residents. The issue for allotment of the land was taken up by the Mayor during the monthly coordination meeting of the UT and the MC held today.

Misuse of water
Violators put on notice
Mohali, July 1
The Department of Water Supply and Sanitation, Mohali, sent 401 notices to residents for misusing water during the morning supply hours. The authorities concerned had imposed a ban in April on use of water for washing cars, courtyards and irrigating lawns in the morning hours. The ban had been imposed till June 30.
