Intense heat scorches North, 3 die in Hisar Chandigarh, June 6 Nihal Singh (67) is suspected to have died due to excessive heat at Jagaan village on Wednesday. Nihal was rushed to hospital after he collapsed while working in fields at noon. He soon died. The doctors, who performed the post- mortem on the body, suspect that he might have died of heatstroke. Two more persons have reportedly perished due to the excessive heat. Anil, around 40, of Sabji Mandi area, and Kasturi Devi (65), a resident of Gujlan, too, could be the heatstroke victims. The hospital authorities were unable to confirm the exact cause of death. In other part of the state, Ambala recorded a high of 44.9 degree Celsius, up by five degrees above normal while Bhiwani and Narnaul recorded maximum at 45.6 degree Celsius and 44 degree Celsius, respectively. In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala settled at 45.5 degree Celsius, 45.6 degree Celsius and 45.5 degree Celsius respectively, rising by 4 notches above normal. Chandigarh sizzled at 44.4 degree Celsius, up by five degrees above normal.
