Goods worth lakhs gutted
Ambala, June 6 As per information, the fire started from the ground storey of the godown and later it spread to the upper storey of the building where cotton was stored. After getting information, fire tenders reached the spot. The fire could be control only after two hours. Two of the firemen sustained burn injuries while dousing the flames. Later, ACP Hitesh Yadav, along with police force, reached the spot. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained so far. |

4 labourers sustain burn injuries
Dera Bassi, June 6 Hailing from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, the youths - Taveesh, Kabir, Arsad, and Sahizad - were residing at a rented accommodation in a building owned by Dr Ramesh Kumar in Saidpura village for the past 15 days. As one of the youth switched on the stove, which was allegedly leaking, it caught fire that spread to the room leaving the four injured, said a victim. The injured were rushed to the local Civil Hospital where they were undergoing treatment, said Dr Kumar. |
Mobile company told to pay
Rs 5,000
Chandigarh, June 6 The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the company to return the mobile handset of the complainant in a perfect working order, free of charge, and pay Rs 5,000 as compensation for mental agony. Pankesh Kumar purchased a mobile phone of Spice Company on July 30, 2013, from the opposite party by paying Rs 6,499 with one year warranty. The mobile phone started giving problem in charging within two weeks of its purchase, the complainant alleged. He was told that for repair, the handset would be sent to their corporate office in Noida, which would take at least 10 days for the replacement of the charger. However, the mobile was returned after 25 days. The handset started giving more problems as it was not installing any application or game. “Due to the irresponsible attitude of the opposite party, the complainant has suffered a lot,” the forum ruled. |

Panchkula, June 6 During the cross-examination of ACP Virender Sangwan, who was the investigating officer in the case, he further recorded his statement proving the charges levelled against accused Ram Kumar Chaudhary. He added that the call details and location of the mobile phones of the accused and aides indicates involvement of the accused in the crime. |

Pet dog bites 10-yr-old; owner arrested
Chandigarh, June 6 The dog bit Jagdish, a Class V student, while he was playing cricket near his house on Thursday evening. The incident led to resentment among the residents who called the area councillor and Senior Deputy Mayor Heera Negi on the spot and decided to report the matter to the police. The victim’s father, Jai Prakash Gupta, a resident of Sector 46, said earlier also the same dog had bitten two other persons. “The residents of the locality have asked the dog owner to ensure that the dog does not roam freely as there can be more victims of the dog bite,” Gupta said. The residents went to the Sector 34 police station with the complaint. The police conducted the medical of the child at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, here. The police booked Satbir Singh, owner of the dog, under Section 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animal) of the Indian Penal Code. He was arrested and later released on bail. |

Man held on rape charge
Mohali, June 6 Charanjit, who works as a driver at an office of a pharmaceutical unit in Phase V, had told the alleged victim that there was a post of receptionist vacant in the office. He said he would get her the job. He then picked up the girl from Sector 40, Chandigarh, in a car and brought her to Phase V. He asked her to go into the office but she declined. Later, the suspect later took her to a hotel and allegedly raped her. Afterwards, she was dropped at her house by the suspect. |

Chandigarh, June 6 Continuing his terrific form, Arjit Singh, who was unbeaten on 90, went on to complete his century (119) off 272 balls before being caught by Sagar of Anmol Preet’s ball. Meanwhile, his twin brother Arpit Singh did not add to his overnight score of 60 and was caught early in front of the wicket by Sanveer. Contributing to the team’s total, Arvind Chouhan scored 56 off 97 balls that included seven boundaries. For Patiala, Anmol Preet turned the game with his figures of 3 for 12. City bodybuilder to compete in global meet
Chandigarh, June 6 After getting selected for the championship, Pushpinder, who is a student of DAV College, said: “For me it’s a moment of pride that now I will get to represent the country at the international level.” Pushpinder, who has been training for the past six years, had won the Mr Chandigarh Bodybuilding Championship in April this year and had bagged bronze medal at the Senior Mr India Bodybuilding that was held in Aurangabad. Delighted by the selection of his trainee, coach Sunil Walia said: “I am hopeful and confident that Pushpinder will bag a medal in the competition and bring laurels to the country.” Walia said his success was due to his dedication and efforts. |

Chandigarh, June 6 The organisers said players born on or after September 1, 1995, would be considered eligible. The players would have to come in proper white dress with cricket kit. Meanwhile, Surinder Singh ‘Baijee’, general secretary of the CCA, said the selected team would participate in an inter-district cricket tournament, which would be organised by the Haryana Cricket Association. |
