Youngsters top the chart among tobacco users, says study

Staff members of the PGI take out a march on World No-Tobacco Day in Chandigarh on Saturday Those in the age group of 16 to 30 years consume maximum tobacco as compared to those in the age group of 31 to 45 years. This was revealed in the findings of the study conducted by the Drug De-Addiction and Treatment Centre of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research.

Monkey sterilisation programme
Himachal Govt to extend help to UT
Chandigarh, May 31
After trying all measures, including hiring trained monkey catchers, to deal with the ever-increasing monkey menace in the City Beautiful, the UT Administration is all set to tie up with Himachal Pradesh (HP) Government for the sterilisation of the simians. At present, the HP Forest Department is leading the innovative programme of monkey sterilisation to control their ever-increasing population. Four State of the Art Monkey Sterilization Centres (MSCs) such as Tutikandi (Shimla), Sastar (Hamirpur), Gopalpur (Kangra) and Boul (Una) are operative in the state.

Hearing a wake-up call followed by a knock from its keeper at 9am, the four-month-old cub of a sloth bear starts shifting restlessly from one corner of its enclosure to the other.

Gurdial Singh Man ends his life in Kharar

A middle-aged person allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at Kharar last evening.
Baljinder Singh, the son of the deceased Gurdial Singh, alleged that his father ended his life as he was being harassed by Jind-based Hardial Singh and his son Sukhwinder Singh.
