Abohar
New Sriganganagar MC chief:
Sita Soni (BJP) is the new chairperson of the Municipal Council (MC) at Sriganganagar. She was serving as the vice-chairperson earlier. The move comes after MC president Jagdish Jandu (Congress) put in his papers.

Maharaja Arut remembered: The birth anniversary of Maharaja Arut was celebrated in Abohar with fervour. Six air-conditioned rooms developed at a cost of Rs 15 lakh were inaugurated jointly by some social activists at Arorvansh Bhawan after they garlanded the statue of Maharaja Arut.

Wheat procurement:
More than 118 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured in Punjab till date, with the state government depositing Rs 15,939 crore in the accounts of farmers towards payment for the wheat procured. Sangrur leads the  procurement operations with 10.24 lakh tonne, followed by Ludhiana (9.06 lakh tonne) and Bathinda  (8.6 lakh tonne).

Dy Commissioners shifted: The Punjab Government has posted Basant Garg as Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda while Praveen Thind is Deputy Commissioner, Mansa. Pradeep Aggarwal, who was earlier posted as DC, Bathinda, is now Ludhiana MC chief.

Protest outside DAC:
Members of the Bharat Jagao Andolan and the Social Democratic Party held a dharna and hunger strike outside the District Administrative Complex. They demanded that the government should ensure proper care and planning for managing natural resources.

Patiala
Six injured in clash:
Six persons were injured in a clash over shamlat land at Dilawarpura village in Patiala on Friday. The Panchayat Secretary and a JE had gone to the village to auction 5.5 acres of shamlat land, but Amrik Singh, who had been tilling it for over 15 years, refused to give possession of the land to village sarpanch Dalip Singh.  This led to a clash.

Notice to panchayat member:
The Local Bodies Secretary has issued a show-cause notice to Chamkaur Sahib Nagar Panchayat member Kuldeep Sapna under Section 16 of the Punjab Municipal Act. Sapna has allegedly constructed a house at Chamkaur Sahib without getting the map of the house approved.

Varinder Paul is new SSP: Varinder Paul Singh joined as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ropar on Friday. He has held the post of SSP in Faridkot, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur. Before that, he was posted as Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) at Patiala.

Sangrur
Phone seized from prisoner:
A mobile phone and a SIM card were seized from a prisoner, Piara Singh, lodged in the Sangrur district jail. On the complaint of the jail superintendent, a case has been registered against Piara Singh, who is a resident of Khadial village, under Section 52-A of the Prison Act, 1894.

Rs 119-cr road project proposal sent to NCR board
: The government has sent a proposal to the NCR Planning Board for upgrade and renovation of three roads at a cost of Rs 119 crore.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary Anita Yadav said Rs 65 crore would be spent on the road from Kanina to Ateli, Rs 30 crore on the Ateli-Kheri stretch and Rs 9 crore on the road from Kakrala to Mandola.

Panipat
IPL betting: 3 arrested:
The police have arrested three persons, including a manager of a guest house, on the charge of betting on IPL matches. The accused - guest house owner Devender, Manish and Raju - have been booked under Sections 3, 13-A and 67-G of the Gambling Act on the statement of ASI Balkar Singh.

An LED, two mobile phones, writing pads, a calculator and Rs 4,200 were recovered from the accused.

DEHRADUN

2 killed as tree falls on house: Two persons were killed while four others were hurt when a tree fell on a house at Dunda in Uttarkashi. The injured are admitted to Primary Health Centre, Dunda. CM Harish Rawat and former CM Vijay Bahuguna have expressed grief.

Postings: Principal Secretary S Ramaswamy has been relieved of Department of Environment and Solid Waste Management. These have been handed over to Dr Ranbir Singh. Additional Secretary V Shanumugam has been given addl charge of Additional Secretary, Rain water Conservation.
