15 jhuggis reduced to ashes in Pinjore
Pinjore, May 30 On noticing smoke coming out of jhuggis, some passerby informed the police. Subsequently, the fire brigade was called. Two fire tenders from Kalka were also pressed into service but it was too late by the time they arrived, claimed an eyewitness. On receiving information, Pinjore SHO Joginder Singh rushed to the spot. He said a majority of the jhuggi-dwellers were away to their workplaces when the fire broke. Cop injured as car hits bike
Chandigarh, May 30 Sector 33 house burgled Electronic items, a laptop, gold ornaments and Rs 50,000 were stolen from the house of Mela Chaba, a Sector 33 resident, Chandigarh, on Thursday. A forensic team collected fingerprints. Meanwhile, a Kangra resident, Amit Sharma, was arrested for stealing a laptop, cellphone and a purse containing Rs 1,000 of a passenger at the Sector 43 bus stand. Naveen Bathla, a resident of Mohali, was yet to board a bus when Sharma stole his valuables. A case was registered at the Sector 36 police station. 2 vehicles stolen Two vehicles, a Hyundai Verna and a Maruti Swift, were stolen on Thursday night. Daljit Singh of Sector 20 alleged he had parked his Verna outside his house at around 9pm and found that it had been stolen. Randhir Singh, a resident of Sector 43, reported to the police that his car bearing a Haryana registration number was stolen from outside his house. The oolice have registered two FIRs. |

Chandigarh, May 30 Earlier, resuming at the overnight score, the Chandigarh team failed to add any run in their total of 293 runs. For Patiala, Beant Singh finished with 5 for 45 while Amrinder Singh took his tally to 2 for 60. In reply, Patiala lost their opener Prabhjot Singh for 4 runs. However, the 2nd wicket stand of 44 runs between Kunwar Raina and Harinder Singh stabled the innings. The Patiala innings was further halted after Gaurav Puri snapped Himanshu Chawla of Rahul Thakur for reducing Patiala to 50 for 3 in 18.3 overs. In form player Kunwar Raina was the next victim when he was run out by Gaurav Puri for 33 off 80 balls inclusive of 3 boundaries. Thereafter, Kanwarpal Singh and Karan Kaila got together to make a stand of 170 runs partnership before Kanwarpal Singh was run out by Akshay Kaushik for a match saving 88 off 214 balls consisting of 9 boundaries and one six. Flowed by his partner wicket, Karan was caught by Aman Bharti off Rahul Thakur for a well made 91 off 171 balls inclusive of 4 boundaries and one six. Amrinder Singh (7) and Aman Bharti (04) batted out the four overs to take the team’s total to 277 for 7 in 94 overs. Since 1st innings was not completed both the teams were awarded one point each. For Chandigarh, Rahul Thakur (3 for 83) and Sachin Rawat (1 for 24) were the successful bowlers. |
