Abohar
320 kg poppy husk seized
:
The Hanumangarh police in Rajasthan on Thursday seized 320 kg poppy husk from a Bolero jeep. However, the two car occupants escaped. Station House officer Anil Meena said the jeep coming from the Pallu side on the mega highway was given a signal to stop at a terminal but the driver put it on reverse gear. As the police chased the speeding vehicle, it overturned. The driver and his accomplice fled but the police seized the contraband along with the jeep that bears a temporary registration number.

Labourers call off strike: Brick kiln workers in Rajasthan’s Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts called off the strike on Wednesday. Nearly 25,000 workers of 450 brick kilns went on strike on April 25. Labour Inspector BL Swami and CITU secretary BS Rana said brick kiln owners agreed to enhance wages by 5 per cent. A section of the owners said they couldn’t afford to pay more wages.

Hoshiarpur
2 of family killed in mishap:
A Ludhiana man and his daughter were killed in an accident when the scooter they were riding was run over by a tractor-trolley here on Thursday. The deceased’s wife, who was riding pillion, was injured seriously. They were on their way to Una. The deceased have been identified as Harish Kumar and his daughter Gunjan. His wife, Nisha, was admitted to the Civil Hospital.
