Gradation: School players in the lurch
Chandigarh, April 20 Although the UT Sports Department will head three more meetings to grade the positions attainted by players, the latter are finding themselves in the lurch. Reportedly, it is for the first time that merit certificates were not released by the UT Education Department to the schools of the winning players even in the month of April. Usually, the certificates are released by the end of January. Recently, the DPI (Schools) passed an order to send officials in its sports branch back to their parent schools and reportedly asked them to look after the work of the sports branch after school hours. Sources said after getting relieved from the sports branch, none of the officials was bothering about the pending works, which caused the delay in distribution of merit certificates. Even annual athletics meet have not been organised, the sources added. The cause of delay is the sports branch becoming no one's baby. Earlier, the officials were ignoring the functioning of their respective parent schools. And education is of primary concern for the DPI (S). So, sports-related work is suffering. Also, lack of communication between the DEO and the DPI offices made the situation complex, the sources said. Also, players are clueless about the day they will get the certificates. “It has been quite a while since the tournaments concluded, but we haven't received our certificates yet. Our physical training (PT) teachers are asking us to visit the DEO office. We hope officials at the DEO office will entertain us,” said a soccer player. On other hand, District Sports Officer, UT, KS Bharti maintained, "The department will organise three more gradation-meetings as per requirement of the players. The players should not worry and try to get their certificates so that they could sit in the next gradation meeting,” added Bharti. |
