Congress clears Tanwar from Sirsa
New Delhi, March 14 Meanwhile, the decision on Gurgaon and Ambala segments has been deferred yet again for want of consensus on the best candidate. Top sources in Congress told The Tribune that Tanwar had been asked to prepare considering he had privately told the party leaders that he could either fight elections or handle the party work being recently appointed president of the state Congress. Interestingly, Tanwar got re-nominated from his sitting Lok Sabha seat at a time when the Congress leaders were offering him to shift to Ambala vacated after Selja moved to the Rajya
Sabha. "At a time when most sitting MPs either do not want to fight elections or are seeking other constituencies, Tanwar was insistent till the very end that he does not want to run away to
Ambala. He told us categorically that he would fight from Sirsa, which he had nursed, if the party decides to field him," said a Congress leader privy to latest developments. Meanwhile, in
Gurgaon, the party is weighing its options between fielding a Yadav or a Muslim. Once that is sorted out, the choice would be between Haryana Minister Capt Ajay Yadav or his son
Chiranjeevi; another state minister Aftab Ahmed and Rao Daan Singh. What goes in Capt Ajay Yadav's favour is that he belongs to Rewari which is part of Gurgaon LS segment unlike Daan Singh who is from
Bhiwani. "The negative with Aftab is he will only get Muslim votes while a Yadav candidate can get both Yadav and Muslim votes. Capt Ajay Yadav is a weightier choice because his son, being married to RJD Chief Lalu yadav's daughter, can also swing Gurgaon's Purvanchali voters in Congress
favour," said Congress strategists. On Ambala, the Congress has to decide whether to field a Valmiki candidate or someone from another sub caste among
SCs. "In Ambala, Valmikis are in minority vis-a-vis other sub castes of
dalits. That was the original idea behind shifting Tanwar to Ambala as he belongs to the Dalit sub group which is dominant in Ambala reserved segment," said Congress sources.

Doctors’ stir: HC orders shifting of 60 Kanpur cops
Lucknow, March 14 A Division Bench comprising Justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and DK Upadhyay passed the order on a PIL over the junior doctors' strike. The order asserted that there was no need to take the permission of the Election Commission to transfer these policemen, including the SHO and CO of the Swaroop Nagar police station, who alleged cane-charged the junior doctors after their hostility with SP legislator Irfan Solanki and his supporters. The High Court also ordered the Uttar Pradesh Government to set up a special investigating team (SIT) to probe the Kanpur incident and submit the report on March 31.

Hyderabad blasts: NIA chargesheets IM operatives Bhatkal, Akthar
Hyderabad, March 14 According to the NIA, the IM had hatched a conspiracy to wage a war against India and carried out the blasts to create terror in the minds of the people and to further the outfit's activities. Eighteen persons were killed and 131 injured in the twin explosions at Dilsukhnagar. Investigation has yielded evidence of the financial help received by the accused from abroad through "hawala" route and other money transfer facilities, the chargesheet, filed before a special NIA court, says. The conspirators carried out a test explosion on a hillock near Abdullapurmet here prior to the blasts, it says. Mohammed Ahmed Siddibapa, alias Yasin Bhatkal, and Asadullah Akhtar, alias Haddi, who were arrested on the India-Nepal border last August, have been charged with murder and other offences under the IPC, the Explosive Substances and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The NIA took over the case after it was initially probed by the Andhra Pradesh Police. — PTI

Tejpal’s bail plea rejected
Panaji, March 14 Rejecting his bail plea, Justice Utkarsh Bakre said there was a likelihood of the 50-year-old journalist fleeing from justice and tampering with the evidence. “There is evidence on record…of the applicant talking on mobile phone to somebody from Gurgaon and New Delhi. A mobile phone has been seized from the possession of the applicant,” Bakre said in his order. The possession of a mobile phone on prison premises, in violation of prison rules, made it difficult to believe that the applicant would obey the conditions if he was released on bail by putting any conditions on him, the judge noted. The judge said Tejpal’s daughter (not named in the order) met the victim’s mother in New Delhi, which the prosecution has called an attempt to influence the victim. “There is prima facie evidence to show that the applicant has been sending messages to the friends of the father of the victim,” the order reads. Tejpal has already spent over three months in police and judicial custody since his arrest on November 30, 2013. — IANS
