Trouble for Jannat Jahan

The BSP candidate for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, Jannat Jahan, is in trouble again for violating the model code of conduct. The District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer for the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, Mohammed Shayin, has written to the SSP, Chandigarh, Sukhchain Singh Gill, asking him to register an FIR against the BSP candidate.

Hit by van, CRPF constable dies

A CRPF constable was killed after being hit by a speeding Tata van while he was crossing a road after dropping his seniors' children at St Xavier's School in Sector 20 here this morning . The victim, identified as Hardeep Singh (34), was posted at Pinjore and had come along with the children from there in a CRPF bus.

It is learnt that the BJP leadership has zeroed in on two candidates -- Sanjay Tandon, the local BJP president, and Harmohan Dhawan, a veteran leader and former Union Minister.

Graduation ceremony
Chandigarh: Ryan International School organised its annual event of the ‘Montessori graduation ceremony’ at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, today. The programme centred around the theme, ‘We are Champions’. The dance drama was the highlight of the event. The school choir presented melodious prayer songs, while the school orchestra presented a live performance.

3 arrested in snatching cases

The UT police arrested three persons identified as Mohammad Khan, Ankit and Ajay, alias Mathura Mishra, and recovered a red mobile phone, which was snatched on February 24.

Man held with 1kg of opium
Chandigarh, March 10
The Crime Branch of the UT police arrested a person with one kilogramme of opium. The accused, Sanjeev Kumar, was arrested with 1kg opium without any license or permit.

Thirteen held for keeping liquor without licence
Chandigarh, March 10
In a special drive, the Crime Branch arrested 13 persons for possessing liquor without licence. The police arrested Sugnu, a resident of Sector 25, for possessing 10 bottles of country-made liquor, Sunil, a resident of Ram Darbar, Phase II, for possessing 10 bottles of country-made liquor.

One held for rape bid

The UT police today arrested Brij Mohan, a resident of Mauli Jagran, in an attempt to rape case of a seven-year-old girl. The girl bit the accused and managed to run away when the accused was trying to rape her.

The Economic Offences Wing of the UT police today arrested a person in a case of cheating. The police arrested Arun Kapil in a fraudulent land deal case.
