The Public Relations Department has urged the city residents (who do not want to attend the rally) to avoid the Ludhiana-Moga stretch of the Ferozepur road as a large number of people are expected to attend “Fateh Rally” of Narendera Modi to be held on the Sugar Mill ground in Jagraon on March 23.

Move to give land for Primary Health Centres

A mini-village, “Rangla Punjab”, was set up during the 69th Annual Conference of the Association of Physicians of India, which started here today. The mini-village had all traditional features. The food court became an instant hit with doctors and their families. Of the Punjabi dishes served at the food court, “naan-chhole” was the most sought after.

Traffic moves at a snail’s pace outside the venue of APICON-2014, in Ludhiana on Thursday Four-day APICON begins
Ludhiana, February 20
The 69th Annual Conference of the Association of Physicians of India APICON-2014 started here today. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, organising secretary Dr GS Wander said the four-day conference would have sessions on varied subjects of medicines. There would be series of workshops as well, he added.

Ludhiana, February 20
The challenge of drug-resistant bacteria and lack of development of new antibiotics was highlighted during the APICON-2014 organised here today. Dr Mangla S Gulati, assistant professor of Medicine, University of Maryland Medical Center, USA, said due to overuse, people were developing resistance to antibiotics all over the world. On the other hand, the pace of developing new antibiotics was very slow, she said.

Though the Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, had visited to four privileged schools of the city last month and released grants to improve the infrastructure but the government and the Education Department seems least concerned about the schools which are deprived of roofs and buildings and have been declared unsafe. Government High School, Chawani Mohalla, is a perfect example of negligence on the part of government. The four rooms of the three-storied building of the school have been declared ‘unsafe’ by the District Education Officer but the classes are still going on on the school premises.

FICO apprise Sukhbir of grievances
The chairman of the Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisations (FICO), KK Seth, and president Gurmeet Singh Kular met the Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, to apprise him of the problems faced by the industry. “As the industry is passing through a phase of recession, problems are increasing day by day,” said Kular.
