Ex-minister seeks NHRC intervention

Former Haryana Home Minister Subhash Batra has sought a probe into disappearance of Kamal Mukhija, the Gohana youth who had tried to slap Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda a few days ago.

In a communique to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman, Batra has urged him to intervene in the matter as the entire episode indicated gross violation of human rights.

The former minister maintained that the youth had been illegally kept in police custody for several hours even after the Chief Minister had pardoned him. He said he doubted that the youth was tortured in custody.

The youth disappeared from his house shortly after the incident. Even his family did not know about his whereabouts. No effort had been made by the police to trace Kamal, which raised questions over its functioning. Batra has requested the NHRC Chairman to take an action in this regard. — TNS
