Students block highway over fees
Hisar, February 8 The students were agitated as the college authorities had told them to deposit development fee and BCA students were being charged Rs 1,800, which was 10 times the fee for other courses. They said a delegation of students met the Principal today, but he refused to listen to them. After this, students came out and blocked traffic to register their protest. The college authorities and the police reached the spot and placated the students to clear the blockade. Principal BS Gharotra said development fee was being charged on instructions from the university to which the college was affiliated. "I will take up the grievance of the students with the university authorities," he assured the students, after which they lifted the blockade. |
Sonepat, February 8 The victims were identified as Bishambar and his wife Saroj, Radheshyam and his wife Satya and Kiran, resident of Gopal Nagar of Jagadhri in Yamunanagar district. The driver of the car, Prince, who was injured seriously, was referred to the PGIMS in Rohtak. The police reached the spot and took the victims to the Civil Hospital in Gohana, where doctors declared them brought dead. The police informed the family of the victims. The police said the victims were going to Rohtak to express grief over the death of a relative. Disappearance of youth who tried to slap CM
Rohtak, February 8 In a communique to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman, Batra has urged him to intervene in the matter as the entire episode indicated gross violation of human rights. The former minister maintained that the youth had been illegally kept in police custody for several hours even after the Chief Minister had pardoned him. He said he doubted that the youth was tortured in custody. The youth disappeared from his house shortly after the incident. Even his family did not know about his whereabouts. No effort had been made by the police to trace Kamal, which raised questions over its functioning. Batra has requested the NHRC Chairman to take an action in this regard. — TNS |

Three labourers crushed to death under truck
Jhajjar, February 8 The deceased, identified as Fazalu Rehman of Sitapur village and Aaved Ali and Mizanoor of Jaahid Dhalla village in West Bengal, had been working at the OBC brick-kiln in Silani village for the past some time. They were going to the market when the accident took place. The driver reportedly lost control over the vehicle due to high speed and crushed the trio to death. The police, on getting information about the mishap, reached the spot and sent the bodies to the Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination before impounding the vehicle. “We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the truck driver who has been absconding since the accident,” said the police. The police said the bodies were today handed over to their relatives after the post-mortem examination. |
Two killed in road accident
Ambala, February 8 Three children sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Civil Hospital at Ambala Cantt. Arya and Muskan are the kin of Jitender, while Komal is the Paramjeet’s daughter. Reports said Jitender, along with his family members, was going to Barwala for attending a marriage. When they were crossing Saha village, their car collided with a van. The driver of the van fled the spot after the accident. The police have registered a case in this regard. |
