Panel to protect child rights set up
Chandigarh, February 4
After taking UT Administrator Shivraj V. Patil's approval, The Chandigarh Administration set up the Commission for Protection of Child Rights today.Prof Devi Sirohi has been appointed as the chairman of the panel. UT adviser KK Sharma said this at a workshop orgnaised by the Press Information Bureau in collaboration with the School of Communication Studies (SCS), Panjab University, as the knowledge partner.

F&CC okays Rs 780.93 cr

Civic body fails to act against hotel owners
Chandigarh, February 4
The Municipal Corporation has failed to disconnect the water supply to those hotels which do not have grease traps. The 15-day deadline set by the civic body ended on January 16. As per the notification issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 2009, it is mandatory for hotels, restaurants and even service stations to have an oil and grease trap.

The UT Administration, Punjab and Haryana will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Metro project in the tricity. Representatives of the UT Administration, Punjab, Haryana and Ministry of Urban Development will meet in Delhi tomorrow (February 5).

The Medicos Legal Action Group (MLAG) has demanded the implementation of 'Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institution (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act' in Chandigarh. Dr Neeraj Nagpal, member of the group, said doctors were not safe as they were often targeted by patients' attendants.

CBI court accepts plea of accused’s mother
Chandigarh, February 4
Accepting the application of an accused in a corruption case, the CBI court today exempted Income Tax officer's mother's plea seeking permanent exemption from court appearance during the trial. Kanta Jain, mother of Rakesh Jain, who is a co-accused, had moved the application on account of her illness which was accepted today. She stated that she was suffering from cancer.

Rs 1,200 snatched
Chandigarh, February 4
In yet another snatching incident, cash was snatched form a person from near Shanti Kunj. Golu, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, alleged that while he was crossing the stretch near Shanti Kunj, the accused came from behind and flashed a knife at him.

A local court today acquitted a person accused of raping a minor girl after the victim and her father, the complainant, turned hostile.
