Mind your tongue, khaps tell AAP
Say new party must apologise, accept ‘ideology’ to get their support

Jind, January 25
Breaking their silence over the possible role of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the elections in Haryana, khaps have told AAP leaders not to issue unwarranted statements against them. “If none is bigger than AAP in Delhi, the same applies to the khaps in Haryana,” said Kuldeep Singh Dhanda, convener of the sarv khap panchayat of Haryana, representing 150 khaps of the state.

In a stern message to AAP leaders, khaps have asserted that they are not so weak that anyone can presume their support easily. Khaps have announced that they are not keen to support AAP or any other political party.

“AAP leaders have spoken against khaps. First, they will have to apologise to khaps if they want our support,” Dhanda said.

“After an apology, they will have to accept our ideology in writing. Then, we can discuss in the sarv khap panchayat whether or not to support the AAP,” he said.

Asked about the future of AAP in Haryana, he said AAP had started a new level of politics, but irresponsible statements of party leaders might cost them dear if they did not mend their ways.

“We are not against love marriage, but same-gotra marriage. A national survey has proved that honour killings are done by relatives of couples, not us. Khaps are non-political outfits, but if any political party tries to show us in poor light, we will not tolerate it,” Dhanda said.

Asked about attempts of khap leaders to contest elections on the ticket of various political parties, he clarified that leaders of khaps were free to contest from anywhere and they had the sympathy of khaps.

“Khap leaders are free to contest elections from anywhere on the symbol of any party. Our sympathy will always be with them as they respect our ideology and are from among us,” Dhanda said.

Frivolous case: Apex court slaps litigation cost on dairy chief

New Delhi, January 25
To curb frivolous cases, the Supreme Court has directed the Haryana Government to recover the litigation cost from the Managing Director of Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited for filing an appeal challenging the paltry medical claim of Rs 8,724 by an employee.

“We direct that the expenses of the litigation shall be incurred by the Managing Director personally who has signed the affidavit in support of the petition and it shall not be taken from the federation,” a Bench comprising Justices BS Chauhan and J Chelameswar said while dismissing the appeal.

A copy of the order should be sent to the Chief Secretary for necessary action, it said. Indicting the Managing Director for treating the litigation as “luxury,” the Bench noted that the federation must have spent more than the disputed amount just for filing the appeal.

In the detailed order, the Bench said Parliament had amended the Civil Procedure Code (CPC) specifically to restrict money recovery suits involving less than Rs 25,000 to two appeals. Despite this, “We are being burdened with cases where the litigation cost may be hundred times more than the amount involved.”

It has become the definite attitude of the officials not to take any responsibility even for petty issues and would waste public money approaching this court. Government departments would spend any amount on litigation instead of paying petty amount to the other party.

Rewari, January 25
Candidates appearing in the Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test (HTET) are in a fix as their examination date is clashing with the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) test for primary teacher (MCD) on February 2 next.

Scores of candidates from Haryana are appearing in both the examinations. Now, they have demanded change in the date of any of the examinations so that they could appear in both the tests. “The HTET is clashing with the DSSSB test on February 2. We are putting in a lot of efforts to appear in both the examinations, but we are now at the receiving end due to clash of the dates,” said Sunil and Suresh Kumar, candidates for both the tests.

Manoj Kumar, another candidate, said, “We are puzzled over the same date for both the examinations. One of the departments ought to change the date of its test keeping in view the future of the candidates.”

Notably, Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE), Bhiwani, is going to conduct the HTET on February 1 and 2. The level-3 (PGT) examination would be held on February 1 while the test for level-1 (PRT) and for level-2 (TGT) would be conducted on February 2. The board has also uploaded the admit cards on its website. “The DSSSB test was held on December 29 last but it was cancelled following the complaint of being leaked. Now, it is rescheduled to take place on February 2, the day when the HTET is also being conducted,” said Satish, another candidate.
