Nurses continue strike
Dehradun, January 15 Today in the morning, the office bearers of Uttarakhand Nurses Service Association, Dr LK Gusain, Director of Doon Group of Hospitals, and other officials held intensive talks at the residence of Surinder Singh Negi. But, with only verbal assurances being handed over to the nurses, the impasse could not
be broken. The Health Minister is only giving us false hope and promises, they have been doing this for the past several years, said Laxmi Punetha, media in charge of the Uttarakhand Nurses Service Association. On the issue of implementation of no work, no pay, while the government has threatened to implement it from tomorrow, the nurses say it would not be effective as they are already discharging their duties under one shift. "The nursing staff deployed at all the government hospitals do not fulfil the norms. There is acute shortage of nurses. Our present strength is suitable for discharging only one shift duty which we are already doing," said Anjana Bhowmick, president of Uttarakhand Nurses Service Association. Meanwhile, after holding a protest by wearing black bands, class IV employees of Medical and Health Services Uttarakhand will boycott their duties from tomorrow. "Barring the post-mortem and emergency duties, we will boycott all other duties," said Manvar Singh Negi, president of Class 4 State Employees Association. |

Sneh Shivirs to tackle problem of malnutrition among children
Dehradun, January 15 Each Sneh Shivir will be established for a period of 12 days at the selected anganwari centres where the malnourished children would be given nutritious food and their entire growth would be tracked. Later, for a span of 18 days care would shift to home during which the anganwari workers will visit the families at home and monitor the children so that there is no relapse. “Backed by anganwaris workers, the Sneh Shivirs will monitor the growth of severely malnourished children, provide them with nutrition so that they regain weight. De-worming and complete heath check-up would be carried at the camps. Along with the children, the mother and other family members would be imparted lessons about nutrition and healthy cooking and even their health would be monitored,” said Radha Raturi, Principal Secretary, Department of Woman and Child Development. Armed with a survey conducted by Department of Woman and Child Development in 2012, around 13,020 children were found severely malnourished in 13 districts of the state. “The highest percentage of malnourished children at 49 per cent was in Haridwar, followed by 17 per cent in Udham Singh Nagar and 12 per cent in Dehradun. In the first phase, we will be covering high burdened districts, the target of which has been set by the Central Government. Our aim is to go to the root-cause of malnutrition and tackle it. So, essentially the surveys would act as guides for us,”said Raturi. A growth chart based on the indicators set by the World Health Organisation and the Auxillary Nurses and Midwives (ANMs) and medical officers too would be roped in for carrying out examination of the severely malnourished children. In case some of the targeted children show no signs of improvement, then they would be sent in the care of experts from the Department of Medical and Health. |

Nishank gives Delhi CM 15 days to prove charges
Dehradun, January 15 "There is not one iota of truth in the allegations levelled against me. No case is pending against me in the High Court or the Supreme Court. Kejriwal became the b-team of the Congress and sullied my image. Nishank said he had served several notices on Kejriwal in the past to prove the charges, but there was no response from him. "Now I would like to ask Kejriwal why he should not be called a corrupt person and a foreign agent hell bent upon destabilising the country. He should share information about the funds received for his Parivartan NGO and the manner in which the funds are being used with the common man," said Nishank. He claimed even social activist Anna Hazare had demanded that Kejriwal should share information about the nature of funds being received by his NGO. "Not only this, Kejriwal and his team extracted mileage in the name of social activist Anna Hazare and then dumped him when it came to forming a party," alleged Nishank. He questioned the manner in which Kejriwal joined hands with the Congress to form the government in New Delhi. "Kejriwal has done a disservice to the cause of the common man by making false promises and channelling their anger against the Congress. However, when it came to forming the government, he forgot all about corruption and conveniently joined hands with the Congress," alleged Nishank. By taking on the Delhi Chief Minister, the state BJP unit has given an indication that it perceives the fledgling AAP as a challenge and would further sharpen its attacks as the Lok Sabha elections are approaching. |
