Scam-hit Haryana AAP’s next battleground, says Yadav
Chandigarh, January 12 Addressing party workers at Aggarwal Bhawan in Panchkula, near here, Yadav, alleged that “money and connections” played an important role in deciding land cases and government jobs in the state. “If we contested in Delhi to oust a corrupt government, corruption is a much bigger issue in Haryana. Also, during Anna’s protest, we got a lot of support from Haryana, indicating that its people want a change. We will be the viable alternative in these elections and we will break this four-party nexus in the state. As all the parties —the Congress, the Haryana Janhit Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal — are all steeped in corruption here and as the BJP can’t decide who to partner with, they choose not to speak about each other,” Yadav asserted. He likened AAP to a one-year-old “innocent child”, who had been affectionately picked up by the common man. “The child must never forget that he is riding on the common man’s shoulder. Any arrogance can translate into an end to this ride. We will bloom till the time we are common,” he said. He said AAP was against dynasty rule of any kind. He said all party decisions, including ticket allocation, were being taken in a transparent way. Volunteers wearing caps raised the party slogan of “Dilli hui humari, ab Haryana ki baari”. Yadav said the enrolment in the party was open from January 10 to 26. |

Politicians must feel pulse of people, says Cong MLA
Sirsa/Fatehabad, January 12 A perfect example of this Aam Aadmi phenomenon was observed at Begu village of Sirsa today when former Union minister and Ambala City MLA Venod Sharma refused to sit on a sofa placed on the dais for him. Instead, he went among people to interact with them on the floor. “I believe politics is undergoing a change and people are fed up with politicians flouting VVIP status. It is high time politicians feel the pulse of the common people and change their ways,” said Sharma. The other day, Sharma had advocated the introduction of Right to Recall or some other mechanism, whereby voters could force their representatives to unseat after half of their term if they failed to live up to their expectations. The Congress MLA, who is credited with getting 10 per cent quota for economically backward classes comprising Punjabis, Aggarwals, Brahmins and Rajputs, is on his statewide Jan Sampark Yatra to feel pulse of the people. A close confidant of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Sharma was also instrumental in the enactment of the Haryana Dholidar, Butimar, Bhondedar and Mugraridar Act, 2010, by the state government. The Act helped thousands of people from Brahmin and other communities to get proprietary rights of the land that were given to them by zamindars nearly two centuries ago. Sharma, meanwhile, addressed meetings in nearly six villages of Sirsa and Fatehabad on the final day of his three-day tour of the two districts. |

Rebel Cong MP Inderjit backs farmers on land acquisition
Ravi S Singh Tribune News Service
Gurgaon, January 12 Last week Rao Inderjit Singh wrote to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda demanding that the notices be scrapped. The letter - dated January 9, but made public today - is accompanied by farmers’ representations to Rao opposing the acquisition. The development assumes significance as Rao is tipped to join the BJP soon. Rao alleged that the state’s notifications were under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894. In his letter to the CM he argued that if land has to be acquired, it must be as per the provisions of the Land Rehabilitation and Re-Settlement Act, 2014. He stressed that Parliament passed the new Act on September 25 last year and the it received Presidential assent on October 1. The Act, however, was notified by the Union government on January 1, this year. The Haryana government issued the land acquisition notifications to farmers in these villages on December 13 and 31. Rao highlighted that, although the state’s notifications under the old Act were issued before the new Act was notified by the Union government, they were after it was passed by Parliament. The letter reads: “This clearly shows the malafide intent of the acquiring authority and is intended to bypass the provisions of the new Act”. “The motives are dubious, ill-timed and not in interest of the farmers whose land is sought to be taken over by them by these surreptitious activities”, Rao added. Among the villages where land is sought to be acquired under the old Act are Badshahpur, Palra, Nurpur, Fazilpur, Akilpur, Ullawas, Bairampur, Nawada, Kakrola, Bhagrola, Wazirpur, Basai, Mubarakpur and Naurangpur. |

He said the people of Delhi felt cheated as AAP had taken the "support" of the Congress, which was categorically rejected by it in the beginning. It is clear that "the hand of the Congress was with AAP” to stop the BJP from assuming power in Delhi, he added. He questioned how AAP could sustain its anti-corruption posturing now after having shaken hands with the Congress, which had become "synonymous with corruption". He said the BJP would work towards development and good governance and root out corruption. Controlling soaring inflation would be another major agenda for the party, he said. The BJP was upbeat and would contest the elections on a positive note, he added. |
