A political drama was witnessed at Deep Complex, Hallo Majra, when BSP councilor of the area, Jannat Jahan-Ul-Haq, along with a battery of party workers, descended on the scene to take credit for yesterday’s decision of the Chandigarh Administration to lay water and sewer lines in the complex.

Poor visibility:15 trains delayed, 2 flights cancelled
Chandigarh, January 5
A thick blanket of fog that covered most of the states in the Northern region, led to the delay of 15 trains arriving in the city today. The weather also affected the air operation as two Jet Airways flights were cancelled due to fog, leading to harassment of passengers, here at the Chandigarh Domestic Airport.

AAP effect: Reluctant cops swing into action

AAP workers meet victim Neera at her residence in Sector 26, Panchkula, on Sunday The police that were allegedly reluctant to file an FIR in a case of snatching immediately registered a case after seeing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers at the police post. The victim, Neera, was dragged by the mobike-borne miscreants while snatching her purse yesterday at Sector 11 market. She said that her purse contained a cheque of Rs 10,000, Rs 2,500 cash and a mobile phone.

Action-packed day for police, excise officials
Panchkula, January 5
The hoarding publicises bar facility at ‘Five Degrees’, a restaurant in Sector 5, Panchkula, before the visit of Excise officials on Sunday. After the visit, the officials got the logo ‘bar’ (encircled) removed from the hoarding A lot of action was witnessed at “Five Degrees”, when local Congress MLA DK Bansal along with residents, descended on the scene to verify a complaint of liquor being served at the restaurant. To verify the complaint, the MLA first sent a teenaged boy who posed as a customer and asked for liquor to be served to him at the restaurant.

CBSE not to upload answer keys

The CBSE will not upload the answer keys for the next All-India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) as well. Last year’s undergraduate medical entrance exam had as many as seven ambiguous questions, following which students and teachers demanded uploading of the answer keys before the declaration of results to confirm their answers.

Shailja Sharma, a resident of Raipur Khurd village, Chandigarh, reported to the police that someone had stolen Rs 1.70 lakh from her residence by breaking open the locks of her house on January 4. A case has been registered at the Industrial Area police station.

Two youths arrested for ATM fraud

The police today arrested two youths for allegedly withdrawing money from an ATM. They arrested Azharudin (19), alias Azhar, a resident of Gobindpuri in Delhi, and Vipin Kumar (23), a resident of Nav Jeevan Camp, Delhi, from the parking lot of Kiran Cinema in Sector 22.

Amidst no medical facilities, the Chandigarh Athletic Association organised a Masters’ Athletics Meet for veteran athletes of the region, at the athletics track of sports complex in Sector 46, here today.
Following a handful of participation, the competition was organised in an unprofessional manner without any medical supervision. The presence of medical staff was important due to the participation of veteran athletes in the competition. No ambulance or team of doctors was seen at the venue.

Ace golfer Jeev Milkha Singh gives tips to young golfers at the inaugural ceremony of the synthetic green turf at the Chandigarh Golf Range on Sunday India’s ace golfer Jeev Milkha Singh will fly to Germany, after the Dubai Open Golf Championship, to get treatment for his prolonged right-shoulder injury. The ace-golfer was earlier suffering from a minor cyst. Later, in October last year, he was diagnosed with a rotator cuff tear.
