Drug awareness rallies held:
Hundreds of students from Government Senior Secondary School for Girls and Government High School of Alamgarh village participated in drug awareness rallies on Saturday. Dr Sudhir Pathak from the local Civil Hospital, Ram Chander Saini, Praveen Kanta and Dr Bindu Arora, all educationists, were key speakers.

Theft at military station: Lt Colonel YL Suresh of an engineers’ regiment has lodged a complaint at the Jawahar Nagar police station in the neighbouring Sriganganagar that someone burgled his house in the Military Station in Sadhuwali village on the Abohar-Sriganganagar road. Investigating officer Harpal Jyani said the officer had stacked extra luggage, including valuables, in the storeroom attached to his office. Locks of two huge containers were found broken and the missing items include quilts, clothes, kitchenware, electrical gadgets, besides some important documents.

Newly wed couple dies in mishap:
A newly wed couple died when the car they were travelling in was hit by a truck near Jian village on the Chandigarh road. Mona Khurd village resident Jatinder Singh was on his way to home from his in-laws' house at Bassi Aladdin village along with his wife Taranjit. Both of them died on the spot. The truck driver who fled while leaving his vehicle behind has been booked.

Govt teachers meet MLA:
Members of the Government Teachers' Union submitted a memorandum to local MLA Gur Iqbal Kaur Babli here at her residence on Sunday. The move is part of a state-wide programme to submit memorandum to MLAs and ministers to press the state government to accept its long-pending demands. The union members are also demanding withdrawal of "show-cause notices" being issued to the newly promoted lecturers as part of the state government's proposed move of reverting them.

Villagers protest nagar panchayat status:
The residents of Saini Majra village held a protest march against the state government's decision to give the status of nagar panchayat to local village panchayat on Sunday. Sarpanch Gopal Chand said he would take up the issue with local MLA Dr Daljeet Singh Cheema. In December 2012, the Chief Minister approved that Nurpur Bedi and Sani Majra village panchayats would become nagar panchayats, following which a notification in this regard was issued. The residents claimed the decision would put financial strain on them as they would have to pay property tax.
