Flyover sought on NH near Dera Bassi
Dera Bassi, January 5 In the absence of the flyover, traffic bottlenecks are a regular feature here causing harassment to commuters. Residents here have been continually demanding construction of a flyover here. Notably, this National Highway was four-laned and overbridges were constructed at Zirakpur, Lalru and Dappar some years ago. However, no overbridge was constructed at Dera Bassi, which is the major town in the area. Highly placed sources in the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), which is responsible for construction of national highways and widening of roads, said a flyover at Dera Bassi on the National Highway was not on the plan then. Residents of the area and some social organisations have been raising the demand of constructing a flyover here so as to prevent accidents. Residents say the problem of traffic congestion has become more serious and the number of accidents continues to rise. The NHAI sources said the Central Government had approved the construction of a flyover here and the project would be executed soon. Meanwhile, NHAI project director OC Mathur said a detailed project report for the flyover was being made and it would be completed within one or two months. Once the report was ready, the next course of action on construction of the flyover would be taken, he added. The cost of the project would also be mentioned in the detailed project report, Mathur said. He assured that the work on the project would begin soon. |
