DAV-8, GMSSS-26 log win

DAV-8 and GMSSS-26 won their respective league matches in the ongoing SS Bawa Memorial Under-16 Inter-School Cricket Tournament today. The first match was played between Saint Soldier's School, Panchkula, and DAV School, Sector 8, on the LIC ground in Sector 26.

Saint Soldier's won the toss and elected to bat first. They made 107 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Gurdeep with 63 runs was the highest scorer for the team. DAV school achieved the target in 18.3 overs. Sagar scored 42 runs for DAV school. Anshul of Saint Soldier's claimed two wickets. DAV school emerged victorious by two wickets.

The second match was played between the GMHS-40 and the GMSSS-26. The GMHS-40 won the toss and elected to bat first. But the team could not perform well and were bundled out at 73 runs. Abhishek with 18 runs was the highest scorer. Sushil and Jatinder claimed two wickets each for the GMSSS-26.

Chasing the target of 73 runs, the players of the GMSSS-26 faltered at one point when they lost wickets in a quick succession but the team achieved the target in just 10.2 overs for the loss of six wickets. Ubedullah and Nikhil took two wickets each for the losing side.

Ex-IPS officer accused of forming fake sports body

Jimmy R Jagtiani, who claims that he is the founder of the Tae Kwon Do Federation of India (TFI), today alleged that Delhi-based Harish Kumar, an ex-IPS officer, had set up a fake sports body.

He alleged that Kumar adopted unfair means to obtain funds and grant-in-aid from the sports organisations/federations, department of youth affairs & sports, Government of India, and the other agencies. Jimmy was in the city for conducting the Tae kwon do Federation Championship at Skating Rink in Sector 10.

Jagtiani said he had also moved the civil court in Lucknow. "Judicial Magistrate had issued eight non-bailable warrants against Harish Kumar," he said.

Kumar refuted the allegations. He said Jimmy R lost the elections in 1998. He stated that the TFI had two members, who elected the president every year.

Ball badminton: Khalsa Club begin campaign with win

Chandigarh, December 28
Khalsa Club, Sector 26, beat ICL Club B 2-0 in the opening match of the first Pandit Mohan Lal Memorial Senior State Ball Badminton Championship (men and women) at PML SD Public School, Sector 32. Former international football player Sardar Harjinder Singh declared the meet open.

In the second match, Punjab University Club beat Moti Ram 23 2-1. In the third match, Banwait Club beat SCL Club A 2-0. In another match, Moti Ram Arya School beat GCM, Sector 11, 2-0 while 56 Club beat Shishu Niketan Club 2-0.

In the girls' category, Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa Club-26 beat Govt High School, Sector 56, 2-0 and Dev Samaj Club, Sector 45, beat 56 Club 2-0. — TNS
