Unidentified woman killed in road accident

Dera Bassi, December 8
An unidentified woman was killed in a road accident on the national highway on the overbridge near Bhankarpur village today morning. The accident occurred when a moving car hit the woman and killing her on the spot.

The body of the victim has been kept for 72 hours in the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for its identification.

The police told that any action in the case would be taken only after the identification of the body.

2 booked for rape bid

Panchkula, December 8
The Panchkula police have booked a person and his brother on the charges of harassing his wife for dowry and allegedly attempting rape, here today. According to police, the complainant, a resident of Sector 10 alleged that her brother-in-law Gurdeep Singh in connivance with her husband Gaganpreet Singh attempted to rape her while harassing her for bringing more dowry.

The victim has been married to Gaganpreet Singh, a Mohali-resident. She alleged that she was being harassed by her in-laws immediately after her marriage. The victim has shifted to her parents’ house in Panchkula recently, said the police.

A case in this regard has been registered at Sector 5 police station. No arrest has been made so far.

Man killed in mishap

Zirakpur, December 8
A man was killed in a road accident on Saturday morning near Banur on the Zirakpur-Rajpura road. The accident occurred when a speedy Toyota car hit the person who was trying to cross the Rajpura- Chandigarh road after parking his motorcycle near the road. The driver fled from the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Sham Lal, son of Ram Sarup, a resident of Rajpura. The victim used to supply breads in this area.

The police have registered a case against the driver of unidentified vehicle under Sections 279 and 304A of the IPC.

Dev Saini clinches TT title

Pankaj Sidana of Manav Mangal High School defeated Aditya Pandey of DAV College Sector 10, to win the title of junior boys’ singles final of the 26th Junior and Senior State Championship for Gurmeet Singh Grewal Memorial trophy being held here today.

In the finals, Pankaj Sidana beat Aditya Pandey at 4-2 (11-9, 2-11, 1-6, 5-11, 11-9 and 11-8). In the finals of girls’ (junior) event, Pareen Verma from DAV Public School Sector 8 defeated Vibhuti of Gurukul School by 4-1 (11-8, 11-7, 8-11, 11-7 and 11-9).

In the finals of youth boys, Pankaj Sidana of Manav Mangal School beat Prasoon by 4-1 (11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7 and 11-9).

Dharminder is Mr Chandigarh (Junior)

Local bodybuilder Dharminder of Bon Sante bodybuilding club won the 23rd Junior Mr Chandigarh title during the 14th Inter-club, 20th Sub Junior and 23rd Junior Mr Chandigarh Body Building Championship, organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Bodybuilding Association, at DAV College Sector 10, today.

A total of 70 contestants under various weight categories took part in it.

20th Sub junior Mr Chandigarh: Below 55 kg: First- Sanjay Singh, Second- Sandeep Singh, Third- Neeraj Kumar; Below 60 kg: First- Vicky Kumar, Second- Dinesh, Third- Amardeep; Below 65 kg: First- Ambar Sharma, Second –Pushpinder; Below 70 kg: First- Dharminder, Second- Gaurav Sood, Third- Kamaljit Rana; Below 75 kg: First- Deepak Singh, Second- Manish, Third- Bharat Walia; Above 75 kg: First- Vijay Kumar.

Coaching Centre-42 win Chandigarh State Kabaddi Championship

Coaching Centre Sector 42 won the senior’s category finals of the Chandigarh State Kabaddi Championship which was organised by the Chandigarh Kabaddi Association for sub-junior, junior and senior (Male and Female) categories that concluded here today.

In the same category, the SAI Club and Bob’s Pearl Club, Mani Majra, secured second and third place, respectively. Famous Punjabi folk singer Gurkirpal Surapuri performed on the occasion to boost the morale of the kabaddi players.

Golfer Aadil Bedi notches top spot in IGU merit list

Chandigarh, December 8
Local golf player Aadil Bedi once again proved his mettle by winning the finals of the Indian leg of All-India Junior Golf Competition. He finished at number 1 ranking in the IGU merit list held across the nation.

He fought for the top spot for country’s junior merit list in the category of 11-13 years. His 3-day best score was 75, 75 and 76. By winning the BPGC at Mumbai he secured 130 points and occupied the top spot in the IGU merit.

Kshitij N Kaul of Delhi finished second with 117 points and Sandip Yadav of Kolkata finished third with 102 points. At BPGC, Mumbai, greens won the finals by 10 strokes 3-day scoring of 71, 71 and 74 along with 9 birdies.

Chandigarh Golf Association’s president CSR Reddy congratulated him and announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh.

“Since I will be moving to B category and amateur next year, I am preparing for the upcoming challenge with my coach Jesse Grewal,” said Aadil.

The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) conducted its 2nd Tennis 10s Tournament. During the tournament, players were able to test their potential level of playing tennis, in their respective age groups.

Results

Green court boys: Winner- Ajay Sharan 5-4 (2), 4-0; Runner Up- Gaurav Chadda.

Green court girls: Winner- Nimrat Atwal 4-0, 4-0; Runner Up- Ameya.

Orange court boys: Winner- Sanyam Agarwal 4-2, 4-0; Runner Up- Darshan Dilbar Singh.

Orange court girls: Winner- Jyotsna Sharma 2-4, 5-3 (7); Runner Up- Sanvi Bhatia.
