Ferozepur
Civic body official held taking bribe
: The Vigilance Bureau has arrested a sanitary inspector in the Talwandi Bhai Municipal Committee, Balbir Singh, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a supervisor in a private firm. The complainant, Sandeep Kumar, alleged that the accused was demanding Rs 5,000 for passing a bill of his firm concerning lifting of garbage. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) Surinder Kumar said the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the amount.

Engineers’ Day
: Gurkiranpreet Singh, Ashmeet Kaur, Gurleen Kaur, Mayank Raj and Parav emerged winners in contests organised on Engineers’ Day at the Bhutta College of Engineering. Principal Dr MP Kaushal presided over the concluding session. Technical quiz contest, creative writing, technical paper presentation and group discussions were held.

Protest after dead cattle found in Moga
: A number of residents led by Shiv Sena's local unit chief blocked the Moga-Ludhiana highway after the police recovered an abandoned canter carrying a few carcasses of bulls on the outskirts of the city on Monday. Shiv Sena activists alleged that the police had failed to check cattle smuggling to other states. They alleged that the cattle died of suffocation in the overloaded canter.

475 examined at free health camp
: As many as 475 patients suffering from various ailments were examined and provided medicines at a free check-up camp organised by Guru Nanak Mission Medical and Educational Trust, Dhahan Keleran, at Moyla Wahidpur village on Monday. A team of doctors from Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, being run by the Trust, examined the patients. 

Sangrur
40-year-old booked on rape charge: The Bhawanigarh police has booked a 22-year-old man for allegedly raping a 40-year-old woman of Handhiaya village here on Sunday. The accused, Ladi Singh, is yet to be nabbed. The woman, in her complaint, alleged that Ladi raped her on September 17 after offering her a lift on his motorcycle to Jollian village.

Probe demanded

Nawanshahr: The local Press Club led by its president, Dinesh Bhardwaj, submitted a memorandum to the DC Aniditta Mitra for forwarding it to the Chief Minister demanding probe in the accident near Mukerian, in which Jasdeep Malhotra was killed. — OC
