Sports school to be equipped: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has ordered a complete facelift of the sports school and college at Jalandhar for grooming the budding players. Presiding over a meeting of the Sports and Education departments on Sunday, Badal said these institutes were established to produce world-class players from the region but with the passage of time they had lost their sheen. He said the need of the hour was to develop these on the lines of newly set up sports school at Ghudda near

Two booked for sodomising boy: A seven-year-old boy was allegedly sexually abused by two youths on the outskirts of Baddowal village in Dharamkot sub-division of the district. The police had registered a case against Paramjit Singh and Jaswant Singh. ASI Bhag Mal said the victim, a student of Class III, had gone to a village fair along with his maternal grandfather. On their way back, the old man asked the youths to drop the child at his home on their motorcycle. The accused, however, took the boy to a secluded place and sexually abused him. The victim’s medical examination confirmed the crime, the ASI added.

Dhuri-Bathinda train flagged off: Vijay Inder Singla, Member of Parliament (MP) from Sangrur, on Sunday flagged off the Dhuri-Bathinda Jn passenger train at Dhuri, about 13 km from here. The train will depart from Dhuri at 4.00 am daily and reach Bathinda Jn at 6.25 am via Barnala, Tapa and Rampura Phul. On its return journey, the train will depart from Bathinda at 7.35 pm and reach Dhuri at 10.15 pm. SAD district office inaugurated: Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Member of Rajya Sabha and secretary general of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), on Sunday inaugurated the district unit office of the SAD opposite the district administrative complex (DAC) here. Dhindsa said setting up the SAD district office near the DAC would prove beneficial for party workers.
