Vaibhav , Ramandeep, Yuvraj selected for U-16 Indian schoolboys cricket
team
Chandigarh, August 4 Vaibhav, skipper of the St John's School, Sector 26, and Ramandeep Singh, player of Saupin's School, Sector 32, have been short listed for the 16-member final squad during the final selection procedure held at Agra today. A total of five players from City Beautiful were attending the probables’ camp at Agra-based pre-selection coaching camp. A player, Uttkarsh, has been selected in the reserves list. Vaibhav started following the game when he was seven-years old. In his early days, he went to Lahore to watch an India-Pakistan ODI at the Gaddaffi Stadium, Lahore, and soon after returning to City Beautiful, he joined a local cricket academy. Since, then he is playing the game and eyeing the laurels. "I am very happy with my selection in the squad. This will be my maiden representation for the country and I will try to give my best. The pre-selection coaching camp and precise practice sessions at Chandigarh helped me book my place in the final squad. "An event held in Chandigarh was a real exposure and on the basis of my performance in that tournament, I was called for the pre-coaching camp," said Vaibhav, who aims to be like his favourite cricketers Rahul Dravid and AB de Villiers". The 16-member final squad will tour Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England over the course of a year. Earlier, this year in January, the local cricket team of boys (U-16) secured third place at the national school games for cricket (boys' U-16) tournament organised under the School Games Federation of India. Both the players were short listed on the basis of their performance in nationals. "I am very excited about the upcoming competition. The tournament will be a great exposure after the recently held nationals. During the 5-day camp at Agra, we underwent precise training sessions so as to overcome pressure. As a middle-order batsman, there remains a high pressure to perform. Hopefully, I will be standing up for my team," said Ramandeep. The Panchkula lad is the only player from Haryana in the 16-member squad. Yuvraj Singh, a student of Hansraj Public School Panchkula, and a member of Chandigarh team that won the third place in the nationals also successfully made his place in the final team of the 16-member squad. He is the only player from Haryana who got selected in the 16-member squad. The all-rounder is looking forward to perform well in his upcoming international tournament. "I am very happy with my selection and hopefully will make my nation proud, if given chance. The team is schedule to play in Asia cup and later in all-world games. The team is looking strong and hopefully will bag top honour during the international tourney," said Yuvraj. He said, "Credit for my achievement goes to my parents and coaches. It's all because of their wishes that I have been selected for my maiden international cap," said Yuvraj. Indian schoolboys cricket team
