The state government has given Mahender Kumar, Secretary to Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia, additional charge as Vice-Chancellor of Deen Bandhu Chotu Ram University of Science and Technology, Murthal.

Hisar MC senior deputy mayor elected:
The Congress-backed candidates were elected senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor of the Hisar Municipal Corporation today. While Congress-backed Dayanand Saini (MC from ward 8) was elected senior deputy mayor, Bhim Mahajan was chosen deputy mayor.

KU result:
Kurukshetra University today declared the B.Tech( 8th semester) result. Dr Hukam Singh, Controller of Examinations, KU, said the result has been uploaded on KU website www.result.kuk.ac.in.

Condolences for SDM’s family:
Former Chief Minister BC Khanduri and BJP Uttarakhand president Teerath Singh Rawat today met the bereaved family of SDM Ajay Arora, who lost his life yesterday while discharging his duty at Kedarnath. BC Khanduri and Teerath Singh Rawat visited the residence of the SDM and offered their condolences. They also demanded that the administration should launch a hunt to recover the body of the dead SDM, who while crossing the river Mandakini lost his balance and fell in the river. Khanduri accompanied by his wife also visited the residence of rifleman Manoj Rana, who lost his life while battling militancy in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Gurpal Singh is Doon CMO: Dr Gurpal Singh on Thursday took over as Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dehradun. The post had been lying vacant since the transfer of former CMO, Dr RP Bhatt, who has been deputed to the Directorate, Health and Family Welfare, as Additional Director. For the time being, Dr AS Sangar was the acting CMO, Derhadun.

Hoardings removed: On the third day of a drive against illegal hoardings, banners and advertisement on the roadsides, a DMC team removed two truckloads of advertisement material. The team started the drive from the Clock Tower and also covered the area from Chakrata Road to Panditwari. The team had to face opposition from shopkeepers, who alleged that the DMC did not give permission on its own to instal advertising material and removed when shopkeepers did so themselves.

Theft reported: Unidentified persons reportedly decamped with Rs 55,000 in cash and jewellery from the house of Vijay Kumar, a resident of Vikasnagar, on Thursday. A case has been registered.

Vice-Chancellors meet Governor: Vice-Chancellor of Uttarakhand Technical University Prof DS Chauhan and acting Vice-Chancellor of Kumaon University Prof HS Dhami met Governor Aziz Qureshi at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday. Both Vice-Chancellors discussed in detail with the Governor various problems and issues related to their universities.
