Army felicitates 96-yr-old athlete
: The General Officer Commanding (GoC) Amogh Division Major General, NC Badhani on Saturday felicitated 96-year-old athlete, Joginder Singh for clinching three gold medals at the recently concluded 34th Senior Masters National Athletics Championship. The GoC commended the the veteran athlete's achievements and said that he had become a role model for the younger generation.

Steel traders warn of hunger strike
: The Mandi Gobindgarh and Khanna Steel Traders Association on Sunday threatened to sit on a hunger strike outside Sonia Gandhi’s residence if the officials of the Central Excise Department didn’t stop harassing traders. Gurmeet Singh, president of the association, alleged even though the Central Excise Department had an office in Ludhiana, it was summoning traders to Delhi to show their sale records. The department had issued notices to the traders after they found theft of central excise in the sale of iron and steel.

: Kapurthala Civil Judge (senior division)-cum-Additional CJM Jagdeep Singh Marok has been promoted as Additional District and Sessions Judge and shifted to Ferozepur in place of Harpreet Kaur Jeewan, who has been elevated as presiding officer, STAT, Punjab.

Phagwara
3 get burns
: Harbans Kaur and her two daughters sustained burn injuries when her clothes caught fire while working in the kitchen at her house in Chack-Mai Dass village last evening. The injured were admitted to Civil Hospital.

5 booked in dowry case: The Phagwara police has booked Vikas Joshi, his father Ashok Joshi, mother Neelam Rani, sisters Deepika and Dimple, residents of Hadiabad, under Section 498A/406, IPC, on the charges of mentally and physically torturing Priya Joshi, wife of Vikas, for dowry. However, no arrest has been made so far.

Six injured in house collapse
: A mason and five labourers on Sunday were injured at Gujjran village, about 5 km from Dirba, when a house that was under construction collapsed. The house belonged to brick kiln labourer Gurdip Singh. Five of the injured persons were identified as Harminder Singh, mason, Jagtar Singh, Kala Singh, Rajwinder Singh and Dharampal Singh. The injured were taken to Sangrur Civil Hospital. The cause of the collapse could not be ascertained. Residents of Gujjran village demanded that Gurdip Singh be compensated.
