Born stars
Even before they are born, they are in the news; they have an official fan page, a twitter handle. Even before they open their eyes, a dedicated few are placing bets on their eye colour. Celebrity children create a never-seen-before kind of hype before and after their birth. Even before they learn how to stand on their feet, the tabloids are fighting to catch them in their right pose. Forget about national and international matters, these kids unknowingly turn the radar on themselves.
Check out the hullabaloo that the birth of Prince William and Kate's son has created. It looks like the world was created for this moment as everyone awaits the first glimpse of the 'future king.' News of people betting on the royal, the look of the child, eye colour, name, hair colour have already been in the news. Suddenly we discover new websites, which are inviting people to send congratulatory messages to the royal couple. Not only this, there are Facebook accounts on the kid who obviously is oblivious to everything! Youtube has become hyperactive with the video of the marriage of the royal couple which is the most watched video over the last three days. This is the kind of attention a celebrity kid kicks off. How could we forget how the spilt up between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise made their spunky 6-year-old daughter Suri Cruise a topic of concern for one and all. Closer home, everyone except for Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan were talking about the couple's surrogate child. Talking about surrogate child, Aamir and Kiran Rao's kid Azad received similar attention. And who can forget, the hype Aishwarya and Abhishek's kid Aaradhya had created? Someone actually posted the kid's fake pictures on Internet. What is it about celeb kids that makes everyone dedicate their time discussing and talking about them? In the spotlight When every move of a celebrity is caught on the camera how can anything which is related to them, especially their children be not talked about? Shares Pankaj, an RJ, who was surprised with the message he received on his mobile, "The biggest war in India is over--the war between SRK and Salman Khan, now rest of the wars against women, corruption, environmental degradation can be handled easily-does it explain the hype that we create about celebrities? Today, the entire world is talking about the royal couple's son. Have we spared any though for the pregnant women who died in Uttrakhand?" Pankaj feels it is the public that creates celebrities. "It is the public who wants to know anything and everything about the celebrities and their kids, their house, their car, their watches…just about everything." Big deal These celebrity kids, be it Aaradhya, Suri Cruise, Shiloh or Willow Smith, influence so many things around them. Actor Karan Kundra, who hosts Channel V's Gumrah season 3, doesn't find the attention uncalled for. "They are born to celebrity parents who in turn have chosen a particular lifestyle for themselves. It is natural that they get such kind of attention. Shah Rukh Khan's kid will definitely be talked about because he is a star. What matters is the values that these stars give to their kids." Excuse
us please A bulletin containing details of the birth of the son of the royal couple was taken by car to Buckingham Palace and placed on an easel at the palace gates for the public to see. "Being born to a celebrity parent is not a blessing. Why don't we wait to talk about them till the time they prove themselves," wonders Dr Param Preet Ghuman, medical practioner, ESI Kharar. The cameras zoom when SRK goes to the airport to pick his son Aryan. "Celebrities world over will get the attention," Sneha Singh, a corporate client manager from Ludhiana says. "We love to read about celebrities. In fact many people feel a kind of a connect with them. Celebrities also feel the need to share their news with their fans, so there is nothing wrong in the hype a celebrity kid gets."
No kidding
Aamir's little bundle of joy, baby Azad grabbed headlines with his birth. The eight-month-old toddler was first seen accompanying his parents to Chicago, USA for Aamir Khan's filming schedule for Dhoom 3.
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is known for pampering his two children. We all know that Shah Rukh Khan is a doting father to his two children Aryan and Suhana Khan and he loves his children very much. His kids still have plenty of attention and love from the media! Sushmita Sen's daughters sure got a lot of attention as the former Miss Universe was one of the first Bollywood celebs to go down the adoption path! After adopting cute Renee in 2000 Sushmita decided one daughter was simply not enough and adopted three-month-old
Alisah.
Here's one baby that the world still can't get enough of! The adorable daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes has been in the spotlight even before she was born! Suri is the youngest fashion icon ever, wearing only couture and having her own fashion blog to boot! |

Right choice
Focus…pretty much like his name, the actor has never lost track of where he has wanted to go, not in a lightening speed though. Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal has always maintained his focus and patience. Tell him that he has the attributes of a tribal hunter, and he would answer with a laughter, which doesn't compel you to join in or smile yourself, but a laughter that says 'I am amused'.
With his latest project D-Day, the Rock On star is on a high these days. With the industry waking up to this model actor, Arjun takes it in his stride. He always gave his best to all the projects, but people noticing him now, 'is strange', he laughs, saying it all. On the film D-Day, Arjun says, "I knew Nikhil Advani and the kind of films he had done before, all romantic, so when he narrated the script and how he wanted to execute the action scenes, I thought how he would do it. I am amazed at the way D-Day turned out." Arjun had to work a lot on his character and looks. "We wanted the character of an agent to look real, for this Irrfan and I actually learnt how to defuse bombs, how to send a signal when the enemy is watching," adds a thrilled Rampal. Rock On, Rajneeti, Om Shanti Om, Inkaar, Heroine… Arjun Rampal did not cry from the roof-top that he wanted to do different roles. "The audiences are smart, they are accepting movies like Dil Chahta Hai, Barfi. I don't want to do dry and boring films which are more like a long lecture." His criteria for selection of a film have only grown with time. "I choose subjects that are topical, films that can stimulate and entertain the movie-goers. The subjects should be fascinating and interesting," puts in Arjun. He has definitely changed the perception of many who talked about his dead-pan expression and thought that models couldn't act. "I don't point fingers at anyone. I am not part of any race. We all learn to make the right and wrong choices with time."

In Chandigarh, for Annual Passing Out Fashion show of Inter National Institute of Fashion Design, Chandigarh, this Kiwi beauty talked about her passion for Bollywood that pulled her from the closed, secure life she was leading with her parents in Auckland to travails of city of dreams, Mumbai. "I am fascinated by the films and thought of giving it a good try," says Radhika who landed up in movie Meri Shaadi Karao. The response to the movie was 'so so' but that hasn't deterred Radhika from chasing her dreams. And, she thanks god for a supportive family. "My parents do get worried about me like all parents do. But they have faith in me and find me 'responsible'." She misses living with her family but for the growth of her career, she is ready to compromise with the comforts of life and explore newer territories. Mumbai is way different from her hometown Auckland, but this gutsy girl has made it hers. "Compared to metropolitans like Mumbai, Tokyo or Los Angeles, Auckland is rather easy, quiet and safe." CELEB POINT Divya Dutta Yes, I am basking in the adulation for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. People I don't know too are sending messages through common friends. It struck a chord and how! To have people come up and say bada rulaya aapne. It makes you smile. What a gratifying feeling! Thanks to you all. I am overwhelmed and humbled. And back in my work field, offers are pouring. When you are successful, people here see you differently. But I observed something else too. Besides treating and perceiving you differently, I've noticed a respect they've acquired for me. A faith that you can deliver. You rise above their expectations, you survive and succeed on your own terms, breaking norms, and you have your own place in the industry which is just yours. It all reflects in how they talk to you, even the truly hardcore commercial ones. As for me, I am having a blast with my favourite unit. Shaking a leg with Farhan Akhtar, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Milkha ji… Celebrating a beautiful experience called Bhaag Milkha Bhaag... And learning a lesson which I once felt awkward about! Learning to say no. Learning not to feel guilty for refusing someone! As Anupam Kher told me, “No is a magical word. It should liberate you, not make you awkward.” I am learning that and to liberate myself above the mere filmy dealings. I am looking for only that what gives me happiness, be it work, be it people! Like cycling early morning in the rain with the wind brushing your face, welcoming a new morning, reading a few good scripts, meeting my friends for a cup of coffee! Yes, I want to live each moment, live it all and look back and know that I made the best of that precious thing called life! (Dutta is a Bollywood actress) |

Smile & make up
A slight curve of the lips sets a lot of things straight. Just like Raveena Tandon Thadani’s pearly whites put behind a one hour late appearance. The rhetoric on dental care, a couple of shocking statistics and facts on oral hygiene precedes any interaction on cinema. Joining her is her six-year-old son Ranbirvardhan Thadani, smiling and proudly flashing his missing front tooth.
“He lost his tooth just last night and wanted to ask tooth fairy for chocolates,” she laughs while in Chandigarh to launch and introduce Oral B’s latest toothpaste. In between, there is a mention of her sensitive teeth, prevalent oral care issues and disapproval of aerated drinks. “I encourage my children to have coconut water or juice rather than aerated drinks.” Ranbirvardhan gets off the stage and she looks after the questions, trying her hand at Punjabi in bits and parts. “My father’s side is from Punjab and whenever I come to North India, I try to speak the language. Though in Mumbai, everybody speaks Hindi only. There we don’t get to speak it very often.” Her constant vigilant eye has the child brought back under surveillance. Would she be forthcoming with the kids following in her footsteps? “These days you have no clue as to what the children want to do when they grow up. But yes, if it is a good decision, we’ll definitely support them.” In the pipeline are a couple of movies that are waiting to be announced. “I’ve signed a couple of films but they need to be announced properly before I start speaking of my character and role.” It’s an era in the industry when a comeback is as much under scanner as a debut. There must be pressure once she returns. “I don’t think I ever left, so there is no pressure. These days, the media keeps you alive. Moreover, the television keeps your body of work in circulation too.” Sometimes, it’s the role and at times it’s the song. Come monsoon and her rain dance number from Mohra starts airing at the radio stations. “They often call me also asking for my reaction to the song. It’s nice if you can be remembered for your work.” Having hosted a couple of reality shows, it’s a conscious break that she’s taken from the silver screen only to be able to pick and choose roles. “I’m very choosy about the roles I do and I’d rather spend that time with my children because film offers will still keep pouring in but once my children grow up, their childhood will never return.” What still remains to be explored is a completely negative character. “I haven’t played an out and out villain yet. That’s something I’ll look forward to.” She adds, “I think the food has been laid, I’m so hungry. Will take a last question and then let’s
go and eat.” It’s time we quizzed her on the remakes or sequels. Her Andaz Apna Apna, lends itself to both the possibilities. “I don’t know if that’s a good idea. Once a classic is made, it’s made.”

When music is ibadat
Hamsar Hayat Nizami has got music in heritage. Son of Ustad Hayat Khan Sahab, his ancestors have been the custodians of the classical music and
this singer-composer has carried on the legacy.
In Chandigarh on Monday for Guru Poornima Utsav by Shri Sai Dham, Hamsar maintains that music to him is ibadat. He sings at places of worship, be it a dargah or Sai shrine but maintains a distance from religions. “My performances address the supreme for He is the one who is the mover and shaker of all,” says Hamsar. Born in Delhi, he has got an opportunity to showcase his classically trained voice for movies like Tathastu, Fire, I Don't Luv U and Punjabi film The Real Friend. “I have also sung in two upcoming Hindi films,” says the singer. He seems bitter for all the years of hard work, riyaz and god gifted talent hasn’t led him to the heights his compatriots have reached. “Honey Singh would sit beside me when no one knew him and I would be recorded. Now, he is a name to reckon with,” says Hamsar adding in the same breath, “I can make songs likeTere ghar akhbar ni aata just like that. But I would rather stick to Sufi.” He hums Ae ri sakhi mere piya ghar aye, bhag lage is aagan ko… to prove his point, ruing again, “Even if a singer wants to sing Sufi, there are very few who can understand it.” But he finishes on a positive note, “I want to make my music reach where it is needed.”

Chill the Greek way
In the food and catering business, a new vision has been introduced by Neil Paul. After conducting a survey at Chandigarh, Neil noticed that there are many food cafes for Italian, Chinese etc. but hardly any Greek restaurants. So, he has started
Souvlaki Grill & Chill in Sector 15.
The restaurant offers a variety of delicious food like Greek eurose rappers kebab, veg eurose, lame chicken, pork, meat, veg chips, sea-food, pasta, pizza and more. One can enjoy a pumpkin-base pizza and instead of easily available pastas, now try out ravioli pasta here. There is a wide range of salads available here. The restaurant has a unique feature similar to open kitchen concept wherein the food is being prepared and served in front of the customers. — TNS |

star track Actress Amanda Seyfried says she is terrified of the explicit scenes in her upcoming biopic Lovelace. The 27-year-old actress is intimidated by the horrific domestic violence that her character has to undergo in the movie, which is based on the personal life of Linda Lovelace, reported a website. "It was a risky role to play, I suppose, but the nudity didn't scare me. I was more afraid of some of the violence and beatings she suffered, but she was a courageous woman and I've never been so affected by a role as I was by this," Seyfried said. "The story of Linda Lovelace's life is a very dark place to go. We couldn't show half of what she went through, although our film is still a pretty harrowing experience," she added. The biopic revolves around the hardships that Linda had to endure as her ex-manager had forced her into pornography. The movie is set to hit the cinemas this August. —

Lady Gaga rules the roost
Pop sensation Lady Gaga regains number one spot on Forbes' list of highest-earning celebrities under 30. This is despite her hip injury, which forced her to cancel several gigs.
The 27-year-old singer raked in approximately USD 80 million between June 2012 and June 2013 after she was named among the best-paid celebrities under 30 in 2011. Other young celebrities, who make it into this year's top three, are Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift, reported a website. The Paparazzi hit maker would earn more if she had not scrapped the remaining gigs on Born This Way Ball tour because of hip injury. Forbes noted that the tour grossed USD 168 million through January. Her new album Artpop is coming out in November and she will cash in more following the album's release.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have spent 500,000 pounds on luxury gold-plated toilets to be installed in their Bel Air mansion, which is currently being renovated.
The couple, who became parents for the first time on June 15 when Kardashian gave birth to daughter North, have reportedly splashed out on four luxury lavatories to be installed in their 7.1 million pounds mansion in Bel Air, Los Angeles, reported a publication online. West has also put in an order for six special-edition beds, costing 114,000 pounds each, supplied by the company that fits out rooms at London's luxurious Savoy Hotel. The reality TV star and the rapper are also thought to be splashing out 500,000 pounds on their kitchen including a Swarovski- encrusted fridge freezer. "They expect the interiors to cost twice as much as the property. They're spending more than a million on a security system alone," a source said. —

Hush hush affair!
Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif went to watch Lootera at a suburban multiplex last week. Some media people got a whiff of their presence which made Ranbir and Katrina also act wisely. They called their friend Vikramaditya Motwane to bail them out, who came and picked Ranbir after the show while Katrina went away in her own car. Why are they hiding so much!
That’s not done!
Nargis Fakhri rehearsed for an item song for one full day but later she came to know that it was scrapped and a new song had taken its place. So, she shot again two days later and her earlier rehearsals were wasted. She was suffering from a muscle pull.

Nostalgic trip
Manoj Kumar turns 76 today and is well known as a writer, director, editor and actor of patriotic films. He remains the first writer to win a national award for scripting Shaheed in 1965. However, there is an interesting anecdote about Manoj Kumar and Satyajit Ray. Ray saw Shaheed a number of times and appreciated its climax. He shared an excellent rapport with the young and imaginative Manoj Kumar. At the International Film Festival in New Delhi in 1967, Ray came across Manoj Kumar.
He told him that he saw Upkar but found it melodramatic. To this Manoj Kumar after a brief silence asked, "Manikda (Ray's nickname) please take into consideration the scene in your Charulata where Soumitra Chatterjee first come across Madhabi Mukherjee. There is a thunder sound and lightning in the background. Is it not melodrama?" A smiling Ray hit him affectionately on his back and said ," You have caught me."
Taking the leap
Priyanka Chopra is proud of herself for taking India on the international platform with her video Exotic, featuring Pitbull. She was criticised for her outfits and the song but she says she is happy with the efforts she has made. It is for the first time a mainstream Indian actress-cum-singer has done a video with
Pitbull.
Ekta Kapoor keeps ‘rozas’
It is a known fact that Ekta Kapoor visits the Balaji shrine in South India or the Ajmer Sharief Dargah before her film releases to pray. In the last few years, she has also started observed a roza (fast) during Ramadan. While every year she fasts for one day, this time she is fasting for more days. As the keenly awaited Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara is up for a release on August 15, Kapoor is fasting on all the important days during Ramadan. She even plans to visit Mumbai's Mohamed Ali Road to celebrate iftaar. She has been observing rozas strictly despite her hectic schedule and every evening breaks the fast in her office with juice and dinner.
Taking a stand
Anna Hazare's camp has today come out strongly and claimed that Prakash Jha's Satyagraha has resemblance to Anna's movement against corruption.
They have also said that they are keeping a close eye on Satyagraha and how Anna's movement has been portrayed in the film. Prakash Jha strongly denies these claims saying he drew inspiration from mass protests around the world.

Huma’s steps to success
Weight issues
I don't have weight issues. I'm an actress first and whatever the character demands on the screen, I need to be that person. If that person is on the wrong side of the conventional scale, then that's the demand of the role. I am not a thin person and I am fine with it. Impressive co-stars Nawazuddin (Siddiqui) has impressed me a lot. It was only when the shooting of Gangs of Wasseypur ended that I came to know who the real Nawaz is. Before that, he was completely in his character. I'm also working with stalwarts like Naseer saab, Madhuriji (Dixit) and Arshad Warsi in my upcoming films. They are simply brilliant. I feel honoured to have work with them so early in my career. Journey in Bollywood As a film actress, I get to travel a lot and play different characters. Also, I get to meet interesting people. On the downside, invasion of privacy can be bothersome at times. People write whatever they feel like about you. You have to be ready for brickbats and bouquets. But it's all
worth it! Hands full Those who say that I've done many films in a short period of time don't know how and who I was before I got my first film. I've had my share of struggle. I don't belong to a filmi background, so for someone who came from Delhi and eventually made herself at home in Mumbai, I've done pretty well. But even today, my criteria for a film remain the same: the script has to be challenging and people should be engaging. Big break I always knew I wanted to be an actress. But at the same time, I wasn't the kind who would give just a couple of auditions and complain, kaam nahi mil raha hai (I'm not getting work) and give up. I was determined to work, be it for TV, theatre, ad commercials or short films. I wasn't waiting for my big break. I believe that attitude has certainly paid off for me. The big break found me because I chose to work with determination instead of sitting at home and complaining. |

chatter box Buzz is that Karanvir Bohra took two and a half hours to get ready for Jhalak's up and coming episode. Wondering why? The actor will soon be performing an act, where he is dressed up as a female and we hear that it took him quite some time to get ready for this act. When asked, Karanvir said, "Now I understand why women take so much time to get ready. There is so much to do. Now, I will never ask my wife, mom or sister to hurry up when they are getting ready. The only tips everybody gave me was to have patience while getting ready and I didn't understand why until I started getting ready." Well, we only advise every man to go through this act at least once, if nothing else to understand women! role reversal: Karanvir
My focus will be on TV: Ruslaan
Ruslaan Mumtaz has been doing films for the longest time and now he has decided to switch to television. He has signed a show Kehta Hai Dil Jee Le Zara opposite Sangita Ghosh. He talks about his role, the show and more…
Tell us something about your role… In this show, I will essay the role of a lawyer, who has never taken up any case in his life and how he ends up fighting for Sangita's case, which is his first ever. Later, the plot progresses and turns into a love story. Did you feel nervous while working with Sangita? She is a senior and she is certainly a popular actor, but more than anything, I am looking forward to working with her. You have been getting many television offers, so why did you choose to do this show? Every time I wanted to do a show, something or the other did not work out. However, this time I feel that I have made a right choice. The production house is good and the characters and storyline are interesting too, so why not? What kind of challenges do
you expect? Television and films have a different style of working and though the long hours of shoot will be a tough part, but I am prepared. After spending six-years in the film industry, will you give up films altogether? Its not like that. I have done five films till now and I have one pending too. My focus will be on TV for a while as television has a large audience, which I want to reach out to.
Drama unlimited
In the up and coming episodes of the show, Yeh Rishta Kya Kahlata Hai, Singhanias will learn that the Deoras will be shifting to a smaller house. Also, there will be a major showdown between both the families, where Nikhil asks Rashmi to choose between her Sasural and Mayka. Meanwhile, Rashmi confides in
Akshara.
Man and his machine
Television actor, Kushal Punjabi, bought a Harley Davidson recently. He always wanted to get the bike. Now that he has it, he cannot stop talking about it. The actor was seen in the show, Welcome-Baazi Mehmaan-Nawaazi ki and Hum Ne Li
Hai-Shapath.
Of promotion and devotion
The cast of up and coming Bollywood film, Bajatey Raho will make an appearance in the television show, Anamika to promote their film. A special Maata ki Chowki sequence was shot during the show, where Ravi Kishen was at his witty best.
He danced to the tunes of devotional songs and was engrossed in the celebrations.
Ravi Kishen danced and sang the popular song O Meri Mata from his up and coming movie, Bajatey Raho with the star cast of the show that is telecast on Sony. The star cast of Anamika was equally enthusiastic to be in the company of Ravi Kishen and Vishakha. There was an atmosphere of fun and frolic.
New innings
Mihir Mishra, who gained much popularity for his role in Sanjeevani, will now be seen in Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. He will essay the role of king Dasharath in the show. He is very excited about his first mythological role and even lost weight to get the look.
Against all odds
Rati Pandey's show, Hitler Didi will soon go off air. For a long time, there have been rumours about the show ending because it has not given desired results. Though the makers tried all sorts of gimmicks and drama to keep the audience entertained, it is confirmed that the show will go off air soon. |
