865 policemen given higher rank: Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal on Tuesday approved higher rank to 865 police personnel. Those promoted include at least 40 Superintendents of Police, 125 Deputy Superintendents of Police, 200 Inspectors, 250 Sub-Inspectors and 250 Assistant Sub-Inspectors. The pipping ceremony for the promoted officers will be held at the PAP Headquarters, Jalandhar, soon. An official spokesman said it was felt that faster promotions to police officers would go a long way in motivating police officers who have delivered under all kinds of circumstances.

Jalandhar NIT starts MBA course: The Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar, has started its first batch of Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with 30 students. With this, the number of departments at the NIT has become 16 from the current academic session. NIT director Prof Samir Kumar Das said the seats had been filled on the merit basis in the Combine Management Aptitude Test. He said the students had been allotted rooms in the hostels and the batch would start from August 1.

3 officers promoted as Sessions Judges: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has promoted three Additional Sessions Judges as District and Sessions Judges in Punjab. Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Additional Sessions Judge, Barnala, has been promoted as District and Sessions Judge, Pathankot; Satvinder Singh, Additional Sessions Judge, Faridkot, as District and Sessions Judge, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar; and GC Garg, Additional Sessions Judge, Taran Taran, has been promoted as District and Sessions Judge. Garg’s posting orders are yet to be issued.
Teej festival :Teej was celebrated at Bachpan Play School with a lot of fun and frolic. Children danced to the tunes of traditional folk music and decorated their hands with henna. They enjoyed the swings which marks the beginning of the
teej. The management distributed sweets among the students.
