Civic body fails to carry out fogging at regular intervals

The Health Department has been conducting awareness drives on dengue in the city, but the municipal corporation has failed to carry out fogging regularly, even in high-risk areas. The lack of coordination between the Health Department and the municipal corporation is coming in the way of the fight against dengue.

LIT puts off auction as few bidders turn up
Ludhiana, July 23
The hopes of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust to generate revenue through the auction of commercial sites were dashed to the ground as an auction scheduled for today turned out to be a flop show. The LIT was to auction several commercial properties today, but few bidders turned up for the auction as a result of which it had to be put off.

Residents up in arms against 'encroachment'

Photo: Inderjeet Verma Residents of Nidhan Singh Nagar near Civil City area are protesting at MC Zone D office regarding an encroachment in their area. The residents alleged that a person had illegally constructed a five-feet wall on a 51-feet-wide road due to which they were not being able to use the road.

Officials not taking any chance
Ludhiana, July 23
The work of land-deal registration has been suffering at the sub-registrar offices due to confusion over legal and illegal colonies in the district. Taking no chance to be in trouble at the later stage, tehsildars and naib tehsildars are not ready to do the registries of the "grey" areas, though the maps have been sent to them by the municipal corporation.

MC fails to act against illegal political hoardings

Even as the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) claims to be going strict on such hoardings, many such hoardings continue to dot the city roads. All such hoardings are of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and the Bharatiya Janta Party. Maybe that is why, MC officials are not able to take any action against such violators.

CII launches advance cluster programme for SMEs in Ludhiana

CII-Avantha Centre for Competitiveness for SMEs has launched an advance cluster programme in Ludhiana, taking the total number of clusters in Punjab to 16. The cluster has been launched in association with the Punjab state office of the CII. 

Rape case splits villagers

The controversy surrounding the alleged rape of a minor girl by the newly elected sarpanch of Kothe Fatehdeen village, located on the outskirts of Jagraon, has divided the villagers to two groups. Both the groups are holding regular protests against and in support of the accused sarpanch.

Truck recovered
Samrala, July 23
The Samrala police has claimed to have recovered a truck that was taken away forcibly from a driver by some unidentified persons on July 17 night. As per information,Sandeep Singh, driver of the truck, was going towards Mohali from Ludhiana when the incident took place. The truck was loaded with iron coils worth 20 lakh. When the truck reached Katani Kalan village, four armed unidentified persons took the truck away from the driver fled from the spot. Sandeep, the driver of the truck, was thrown out of it by the the accused near Rajewal village.

Single window for pensioners at PAU

Former president of the PAU Employees’ Union DP Maur said that the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University had agreed to open a single window system (suvidha-window) for pensioners and retirees at the Thapar Hall.

Engineering student run over by truck, dies
Ludhiana, July 23
An overspeeding truck led to the death of a 20-year-old engineering student near Gill Bridge yesterday. The victim has been identified as Sarabjit Singh, son of Urvinder Singh and resident of Shastri Nagar in Model Town.

Blind murder case cracked

It has booked 13 persons in this connection, of whom six have been arrested.

Jail inmate’s body found hanging
Ludhiana, July 23
Parminder Singh (25), a jail inmate and resident of Nawanshahr, was found dead under mysterious circumstances today. His body was found hanging from the grill of a bathroom in cell No. 3 of the Central Jail here.
