Narrow escape for passengers as bus catches fire
Hoshiarpur, July 16
Fire suddenly broke out in a moving double-decker bus, JK2-AQ-2129, of a private transport company near Ram Colony Camp here in the wee hours today. All 35 passengers, driver Pt Sita Ram and conductor Tara Chand remained unhurt when the said double-decker suddenly engulfed in fire.

Woman commits suicide
Hoshiarpur, July 16
A woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at Lasara village last evening. According to police sources, Neeru, daughter of Mangat Ram of Balamgarh (Madwara), was married to Satish Kumar, son of Devi Dayal of Lasara about three years ago.

Narrow escape for passengers as bus catches fire

Hoshiarpur, July 16
Fire suddenly broke out in a moving double-decker bus, JK2-AQ-2129, of a private transport company near Ram Colony Camp here in the wee hours today. All 35 passengers, driver Pt Sita Ram and conductor Tara Chand remained unhurt when the said double-decker suddenly engulfed in fire.

It was reported that the double-decker bus was bound from Jammu to Chandigarh. At about 2:30 am, when it reached Ram Colony Camp, near the Chandigarh bypass, the bus driver noticed that the engine of bus caught fire. He immediately stopped the bus and alerted all passengers.

According to police sources, Pushpa (65), wife of Waryam Chand of Panchkula, got minor injuries.

Later, fire engine of the Municipal Fire Brigade was requisitioned and it controlled the fire at about 4:30 am. The bus was completly destroyed by fire. The real cause of fire was yet to be ascertained.

 CKD opens institute at Tarn Taran

CKD member in charge Harjit Singh welcomed all CKD dignitaries. Ragi Inderjit Singh chanted divine kirtan on the occasion. President S Charanjit Singh Chadha along with prestigious CKD members solemnised the stone-foundation ceremony of the management college.

President Charanjit Singh Chadha said courses offered at the college would be MBA, MCA, MSc (Computer Science), BBA, BCA, BCom (Prof), BSc (Airlines, Tourism and Hospitality Management), BSc (Hotel Management Catering Technology), BSc (Fashion Designing Technology). Other available on the occasion included vice-president Dr Santokh Singh, resident president Nirmal Singh, Hon Secy Santokh Singh Sethi, joint secretary (finance) Narinder Singh, joint secretary (legal and court cases) Harminder Singh, schools committee chairman Manjit Singh and other CKD dignitaries were present. — TNS

 Woman commits suicide

A woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at Lasara village last evening. According to police sources, Neeru, daughter of Mangat Ram of Balamgarh (Madwara), was married to Satish Kumar, son of Devi Dayal of Lasara about three years ago.

Since her marriage, her husband Satish Kumar, brother-in-law Pardeep Kumar, father-in-law Devi Dayal, mother-in-law Nimo, sister-in-law Pardeep Kumar allegedly tortured and maltreated her for bringing dowry from her parents. Fed up with regular torturing by members of her in-laws family, she committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her house.

The Mahilpur police has booked all accused under Section 306 of the IPC and has arrested Neeru's husband Satish Kumar. In another case, the Bulhowal police has arrested Tarsem Lal, son of Pritam Singh of local Mohalla Bhim Nagar under Sections 406 and 498 A of the IPC for torturing and maltreating his wife Reena Rani, daughter of Sarwan Dass of Pathralian village for bringing dowry from her parents.

Sources said Reena Rani was married to Tarsem Lal on March 6, 2013. Since her marriage, her husband allegedly tortured and maltreated her for bringing dowry from her parents.

 Smack seized

Hoshiarpur, July 16
The Bulhowal police intercepted a person, identified as Mohinder Singh, son of Harbhajan Singh of Punjabi Bagh Colony, Salem Tabri, Ludhiana and seized 10 gram smack from his possession.A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him.— OC
