Man arrested: One person has been booked for encroaching upon the prohibited land meant for the Army ammunition dump yard at Vallah, Amritsar. The accused has been identified as Manjit Singh of Patti, Verka. According to investigating officer Sarwan Singh, a case under Section 188 of the IPC has been registered.

MLA’s son attacked by truck drivers: Local SAD MLA Joginder Pal Jain's son Akshit Jain escaped unhurt after getting involved in a brawl with truck drivers on the national highway in Moga city on Tuesday. He had come to the rescue of his friend, who was attacked by truck drivers, after a truck hit his friend's car. Akshit's friend Jai Deep received multiple injuries and was taken to the district hospital. He is said to be in a critical condition. SHO Jas Varinder Singh said Kehar Singh, Manjit Singh and Ranjit Singh had been arrested. A criminal case has been registered.

Manpreet honours samiti poll winners: Manpreet Badal, People's Party of Punjab (PPP) president, honoured the newly-elected block samiti and zila parishad members belonging to the Sanjha Morcha at a function organised at Chadiani Khurd village in Balachaur subdivision here on Tuesday. Manpreet said the poll alliance would be instrumental in shaping new political equations in the state. The PPP president said the country needed to tackle corruption and unemployment.

Puducherry to get its first gurdwara
: Puducherry will soon get its first gurdwara. Land for the same will be allocated and authorities have planned to make it functional by January next year so they can celebrate Guru Gobind Singh's birthday. Virendra Kataria, the newly appointed Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, said he had in principle accepted to allot land for setting up the gurdwara in the former French colony. The place has no gurdwara as of now. The prayer hall will be ready once the allotment is done. The Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib will be installed thereafter.

Korfball trials
:Trials to select sub-junior and senior teams by the Chandigarh Korfball Association will be held at Guru Gobind Singh College-26, on July 17 at 5 pm. The selected players will represent the city in the upcoming (U-17) National Korfball Championship. Players can report to Gurcharan Singh Gill.

Rathore is farm, fruit body member: A senior Congress leader and fruit grower Kuldeep Rathore has been appointed a member of the Agriculture and Processed Fruit Products Development Authority by the Centre. Thanking Union Commerce Minister Anand Sharma for appointing Rathore to an important body, PCC spokesperson Naresh Chauhan said it would help in giving boost to the development of the sector.

Cops cremate 29 bodies: An Uttarakhand police team led by Inspector-General of Police GS Martoliya has cremated 29 unclaimed bodies at Rambara. The police also gathered DNA samples from the bodies, took their photographs and articles recovered from them. Police personnel reached unaccessible areas with the help of ropes and pulled out the bodies for cremation. Team members also brought wood, ghee and other substances needed for cremations. They will stay at Rambara today and visit the surrounding areas tomorrow to search for other bodies and cremate them.

Mussoorie MC gives Rs 8.13 lakh: Manmohan Singh Mall, president of the Mussoorie Municipal Council, presented a cheque for Rs 8.13 lakh to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna towards disaster relief here on Tuesday. Manmohan was accompanied by the MC employees when he presented the cheque. He said while the MC contributed Rs 6.20 lakh, its employees donated the remaining Rs 1.93 lakh. The Chief Minister appreciated the gesture of the MC.
