Six years after a chartered accountant (CA) was murdered in his Sector 42 office here, the court of District and Sessions Judge SK Aggarwal today convicted four persons of the murder.

Teachers told to gear up for longer working hours
Chandigarh, July 4
The issue pertaining to the extension of working hours of government teachers in the UT under the Right to Education (RTE) Act is back in focus. Nearly three months after rolling back its decision, the UT Education Department has again directed all school heads to hold meetings with their respective teaching staff regarding the extension of working hours so that they can gear for the "new schedule".

UT Admn notifies house tax

The UT Administration has notified the house tax proposal sent by the municipal corporation (MC) following UT Administrator Shivraj V Patil's approval. The tax will be applicable with retrospective effect from April 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014.

2 more DSPs join UT police

Two more DSPs joined the UT police on deputation today. Satish Kumar of Delhi and Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Services (DANIPS) cadre, who is under training, joined the Chandigarh Police as DSP for field training in Chandigarh for one year. Another DSP, Shweta from Delhi, is scheduled to join the Chandigarh police for one year.

Ramoowalia, Harbhajan Mann become victims of cyber slur 
Mohali, July 4
Former Union Minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and noted Punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann are now the victims of cyber crime. Somebody created fake Facebook accounts of Ramoowalia and his son-in-law Harbhajan Singh Mann, a noted Punjabi singer, and posted some objectionable material on those.

DC asks Civil Surgeon to take measures against centipedes in Mirjapur

Remedial measures must be taken against centipedes in Mirjapur village in the Kharar sub-division and geologists should also be consulted to find a solution to the problem. These directions were issued by Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu to the Mohali Civil Surgeon and the Kharar SDM.

Panjab varsity declares admission schedule for MCom (Hons)

Panjab University has declared the schedule for admission to MCom (Honours). The students who have qualified the Other Common Entrance Test (PG) can submit their admission forms for MCom till July 6 in the Department of University Business School (UBS).

Class XII marks impact JEE (Main) final rank list

The final rank list of the JEE (Main), released on Tuesday, took several city students by surprise as the introduction of Class XII score as a component of the final JEE (Main) results affected their overall ranks. The final rank list was prepared after adding the score of the JEE (Main) entrance exam, the results of which were declared on May 7, and further adding the 40 per cent weightage of the Class XII marks.

A local court today remanded a UT police ASI, who was arrested in a bribe case, in 14-day judicial custody. ASI Devinder Kumar was arrested yesterday for demanding a bribe of Rs 3,500 from a person for not implicating him in a case.

Proclaimed offender Lovepreet sent to jail 
Mohali, July 4
The Mohali police today arrested a criminal, who has been declared as proclaimed offender, wanted in several cases of theft and attempt to murder. Inspector Samar Vineet, Station House Officer of Phase I police station, said the accused, Lovepreet Singh alias Kabootar (24), was nabbed late last night.

Department to start annual sports talent scholarship

The UT Sports Department will start an annual sports talent scholarship to felicitate outstanding local players here.
