Cop suspended for misusing office: Kulwinder Singh, Commandant of the 80th Batallion of the Punjab Armed Police (PAP), Jalandhar, has been suspended for misusing his official position. He put the government vehicle of his battalion to personal use and directed 11 police personnel to help with construction at his farm house in Variana village in Jalandhar. He has been attached with the Punjab Police Headquarters, Chandigarh, said a press release. A departmental inquiry into the matter has been ordered.

Doctors want bond policy to go:The Young Doctors Wing of Indian Medical Association, Punjab, has demanded that the policy of bond for admission in postgraduate courses should be done away with. They said the policy of bond should not be linked to service of the people because these doctors are serving the people.

Sangrur
Bhattal’s kin 0cremated: Harcharan Kaur (86), the mother-in-law of former Chief Minister and now MLA from Lehragaga Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, was cremated at Changaliwala village (Lehragaga) on Friday. She had died while asleep in Chandigarh on Thursday. Several politicians attended the cremation.

Two of a family killed in accident: Two members of a family were killed while two others sustained injures in a road accident near Naushehra Pannuan, 14 km from here, on Friday. The accident occurred when the car the four were travelling in hit a tree. The deceased have been identified as Parkash Kaur (55) and her sister Dalbir Kaur (52). Jaswant Singh and his cousin Hardeep Singh have been admitted to a hospital in Amritsar where their condition was stated to be serious.

1 kg heroin recovered: One kg of heroin was recovered in two separate incidents in the district on Friday. Manpreet Singh was arrested with 500 gm of heroin from near Baghiari village bus stand, 20 km from here. He is reported to be a member of a nine-member gang of smugglers. A Pakistan-made mobile phone along with a SIM card was recovered from his possession. In the other incident, the police seized 500 gm of heroin after the interrogation of Jassa Singh, who was arrested recently.
