City bus service loses Rs 50,000 per day
Ludhiana, June 19
Ludhiana City Bus Service Limited is suffering a loss of around Rs 50,000 per day.
Reason: In the absence of checks, conductors don’t give tickets to passengers and share the money with drivers. Some passengers complained that they were issued already used tickets by conductors. The LCBSL has only six inspectors to keep an eye on the drivers and conductors.

Audit team pulls up GLADA for overspending
Ludhiana, June 19
The audit wing has raised a serious objection to overspending by the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) on deposit works to the tune of Rs 1.09 crore. The works were carried out on the behalf of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University (GADVASU) during the 2011-12 fiscal.

3 women held for shoplifting
Ludhiana, June 19
The Kotwali police claimed to have busted a gang of shoplifters with the arrest of four persons, including three women, last night.

PPCC secy booked for abetment to suicide
Ludhiana, June 19
A day after the police booked a Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) secretary, Almudin Saifi, and his two aides after the death of one Mohammed Khurshid at Mayapuri in the Tibba road area, the leader today cried foul and said he became the victim of political vendetta. He alleged that SAD MLA Ranjit Dhillon instigated the deceased’s relatives against him. Mohammed Khurshid died due to cardiac arrest after his two sons were rounded up by the police in connection with a yarn theft case.

Rs 50,000 snatched from trader
Mandi Gobindgarh, June 19
Two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons snatched Rs 50,000 from a shopkeeper last evening. Santosh Telecom Proprietor Preetpal Singh said, “I was counting the cash in my shop around 9.30 pm when two youngsters stopped their motorcycle in front of my shop and one of them came inside the shop and demanded a mobile charger, while my younger brother Sukhwinder Singh was showing him the item, he snatched cash from me, while doing so, the main glass door was broken which injured my brother. My brother is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Khanna.”

3 held with 150 stolen cycles
Ludhiana, June 19
With the arrest of three persons the city police has claimed to have busted a gang of cycle lifters, who have so far stolen 150 cycles.

Ludhiana, June 21
Two motorcycle borne youth snatched Rs 1,000 from a commuter at gun point in Meharban area. The accused have been identified as Daljit Singh and Mukhtiar Singh, both residents of Mundian area. According to the complainant, Jarnail Singh, he was returning home when the accused intercepted him. Before he could react, the accused pointed a pistol at Jarnail Singh and asked him to handover the money. He got panicked and handed over the purse to the accused.
