Mayor pulls up staff 
Ludhiana, June 1

The Mayor visited the four zones of the city last evening and found that the roads were not being cleaned.

Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar residents to get more facilities 
Ludhiana, June 1
Employees of the engineering branch of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) are likely to while away their time as a resolution regarding transfer of the 475 acre Shaheed Bhagat Singh (SBS) Nagar scheme to the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has been passed.

Ludhiana, June 1
Medicines worth lakhs were gutted in a fire that broke out at a godown in the old city area this evening. A short circuit is believed to be the reason behind the fire. It took 10 fire tenders more than three hours to douse the flames.

City railway station to have solar lights
Ludhiana, June 1
Taking a big leap towards energy conservation, the Railways is in the process of installing solar lights at the Ludhiana railway station. Four solar lights have already been installed at the railway station.

Cable theft hits rly bookings
Ludhiana, June 1

Photo: Inderjeet Verma Passengers at the railway station faced sheer inconvenience this morning when the connectivity cable of an internet service which connects the private railway ticket counters was stolen early in the morning. The passengers were seen standing in long queues to buy the tickets outside ticket windows at the railway station.

State government swings into action
Ludhiana, June 1
While the Punjab and Haryana High Court has said that "very soon there will be an organised mining mafia in Punjab", the state government seems to have swung into action, though late. The Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Badal has convened a meeting of all the Deputy Commissioners and Zonal Inspector Generals of Punjab at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh, on June 3, on the issue.

The views were expressed by Dr Meera D Ansal, college of fisheries of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. She emphasised that provide sufficient comfortable zone to your fish below the surface layer, which gets heated up far beyond optimum temperature range (28-320C). Maintain six feet water depth and to mitigate heating up of water; partial shading of pond with trees is also recommended. Further, take care of the water quality. 'Oxygen' is the most important issue to be addressed, which may fall to lethal levels, especially during dawn, due to enhanced biological activity in the pond.

Man hangs himself to death
Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 1
A man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with a chain installed at a workshop. The incident occurred last night at Chhapar in Hargobind Nagar village near here. The deceased has been identified as Deepak Kumar of local ward number 4.

Sukhdeep Singh Budding boxer to represent India
Ludhiana, June 1
Sukhdeep Singh (19), a budding boxer from Chakar village of Ludhiana district, has been selected for the Asian Boxing Championship, which is going to held in Jordan from June 30 to July 9. Sukhdeep will represent India in the championship. Sukhdeep had won a silver medal in the FXTM International Boxing Cup held in Cyprus.
