Bipneet scores 95.2 per cent in medical
Khanna, May 27
Bipneet Singh, a student of class XII (medical), Radha Vatika School, Khanna, did his school proud by scoring 95.2 per cent marks in the CBSE result declared today. Principal of the school, Shakar Sudha, said Bipneet scored 100/100 marks in chemistry.

‘Punjab’s contribution to civil services dwindling’

More youths from Punjab should come forward and join civil services and contribution of the state to the civil services has been dwindling, said Dr DJ Singh, former Joint Director and Dean, Punjab Police Academy. He said this during the inauguration ceremony the new premises of a civil services coaching institute today.

Tribune Photo: Himanshu Mahajan Amid protests, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation officials today demolished the remaining 60 jhuggis behind Orient Cinema in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. Around 100 jhuggis were razed in the area on May 22.

Walls defaced at railway station
Ludhiana, May 27
The defacement of walls of the railway station continues even after a month since the railway employees’ union polls concluded. The Railways authorities have failed to remove posters pasted by union activists on the walls during the election campaign. Those who won the elections are now busy pasting new posters to thank those who voted for them.

Show-cause notices served on 52 MC officials

During a surprise check conducted at the Zone-A office of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation near Mata Rani Chowk this morning, 52 MC officials were found reporting late on duty.

PAU students ask authorities to beautify canteen area

Although the Punjab Agricultural University campus is known as a breathing space in the most polluted city of the state, students of PAU are not satisfied with the existing infrastructure of the university. Students feel deprived of an area on the university premises where they can enjoy sitting with people coming from within and outside the campus.

Power woes hit farm varsity students

Despite having power connectivity with the hotline, i.e. uninterrupted power supply, Punjab Agricultural University has been facing power cuts for the past few days. Power shutdowns during nights have become a routine affair on the PAU campus.

Though the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation is going strict on violators at service lanes on Ferozepur Road following orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, it has failed to check violations in other parts of the city.

Betting racket busted, three arrested
Ludhiana, May 27

Photo: Inderjeet Verma In a major breakthrough, the city police has arrested three persons, including two bookies, for betting on the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The accused have been identified as Arun Kumar Tangri and Rajinder Kumar, alias Vicky. They were arrested from a hotel in the Kotwali area last night.

Jagtar XI, Jarkhar, drubbed Guru Gobind Singh Club, Ludhiana, 12-3, to register their maiden victory in the senior section of the Fourth Olympian Prithipal Singh Memorial Seven-a-Side Hockey Festival being organised by the Ludhiana Sports Welfare Association and Jarkhar Academy at Mata Sahib Kaur Stadium, Jarkhar, near here today. Jagtar XI had entered the tie after losing the first two matches they played.
