Dera Bassi, March 16 Members of the delegation, in which family members of victim were included, had expressed dissatisfaction over the police inquiry. Colourful end to sports meet at Banur institute
Banur, March 16 Harnam Singh, president of the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust, was the chief guest on the occasion. He recalled the achievements of the students of different colleges of the Gian Sagar group of institutions. Dr Sukhwinder Singh, vice-chairman of the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust, underlined the importance of sports on the occasion. Dr Jasbir Kaur, principal of the Gian Sagar Medical College, Dr Kamaljit Singh, chief executive officer, Dr HM Swami, medical superintendent of the Gian Sagar Hospital, and principals of all other Gian Sagar institutions were present at the occasion. A colourful cultural programme was also organised to conclude the function at the sprawling grounds of the college. Anu was murdered: Postmortem report
Zirakpur, March 16 SMO Dera Bassi, Dr SK Mittal, said according to doctors, who conducted the postmortem examination, the victim was forced to consume some poisonous substance. He said the samples of dead body had been sent at Kharar laboratory for investigation and reality would be revealed after receiving the results of postmortem samples after 10 days. Meanwhile, SHO Zirakpur Shinderpal Singh Bhullar said the police was investigating the case from all aspects. He further said the police was interrogating Ashok Kumar, husband of the victim, who had been booked under Section 302. The police has collected Ashok's records of all the mobile phone calls and is examining them deeply. An appropriate action would be taken after reaching any conclusion, SHO added. Anu’s body was found lying on the floor of house, wrapped with duppatta. She was a typist at a private hospital and had not gone to her office on that day. Her husband, Ashok, who was booked and arrested in this case, is an engineer in a printing press of an English newspaper at Chandigarh. Anu’s parents have also alleged that her husband had been harassing her for dowry for the past some time. |

3 held with fake currency
Mohali, March 16 SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said at a press conference here today that the arrested persons are Tarlochan Singh, an auto rickshaw driver of Phase III B 1, his wife, Kailash Kaur, his son, Harjeet Singh, Naresh Kumar and Sanjay Kumar, both residents of Sector 45, Chandigarh. According to the police, these persons allegedly used to get fake currency and intoxicants from the Nepal border and UP. Then they tried to dispose off fake currency at petrol pumps or shops. They would also sell intoxicants to drug users. A case under Sections 489 A, 489 B and 489 C and the 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Matour police station in this regard. — OC |

Girl abducted in Panchkula
Panchkula, March 16 The minor girl had gone out with her friends. After sometime, when she did not return home in the evening, her parents searched for her but failed to trace her. They then approached the local police which registered a case at the Sector 14 police station. The girl’s parents are suspecting that their daughter has been kidnapped by a boy by puring her for marriage. In another case, a 30-year-old man, identified as Kunal Bhamri was allegedly kidnapped by some unidentified persons. The victim was identified as Kunal Bhamri, said that he was going to Sector 26, Chandigarh, for some work but did not return. Station house officer of the Pinjore police station, Inspector Raj Kumar said a case under Section 365 (kidnapping) has been registered against unknown persons. |

Chandigarh: The police has arrested a person with a stolen vehicle from the Sector 43 motor marker today. Parveen Kumar, a resident of Rajpur village, Sonepat district, was nabbed from the parking lot of the ISBT-43. A case has been registered. PCA authorities fail to deliver tickets at outlet
Chandigarh, March 16 The situation prevented the local cricketing enthusiasts from witnessing what infact turned out to be a day of records. “I have received around 190 calls on my official phone, to confirm the status of tickets, till now but the branch, has not received even a single ticket to sell. The delay is from the PCA authorities as they asked for some more time to delive the lot. As soon it is delivered, we will start selling the tickets”, said RK Bhalla, branch manager, Central Bank of India. Generally, on Saturdays, the functioning of bank closes at 12 noon. When asked whether the branch would sell the tickets even after the stipulated hour, the manager added, “We have been assigned this duty and the branch will perform it. We will sell the tickets till the closing time. In addition, to this the bank will also sell the tickets on Sunday”. Confusion among masses: The decision to sell tickets through the bank branches has landed the local cricketing buffs in confusion. Usually the banks remain close on Sundays and function only during the first half on Saturdays. Although, it was decided to sell the tickets on Sunday, non-intimation of the same led to worry among people. “After getting to know about the new status of tickets, we rushed to the ticket-selling counter but failed to get a ticket. Hopefully, the tickets will be available by this evening or tomorrow", said a group of youngsters. Stats Records: The day witnessed series of records being made here.
