Roof collapse claims 2 lives
: Two persons were killed while several others received injuries after the roof of a house collapsed around 2 am on Monday at Kala Tibba village near here. Among those killed were three-month-old Amandeep and 15-year-old Praveen Kumar. The mishap occurred at the house of Om Parkash (Amandeep was his on) at a time when his family and their relatives had gathered for a religious function to mark Shivratri. It took the villagers two hours for rescuing the family from the debris. Two of the victims were declared “brought dead” at the hospital.

Migrant labourer found dead: A migrant farm labourer, Satpal, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his house in Bishanpura village of Abohar sub-division on Monday. Aged 40, Satpal was first spotted dead by his son. Superintendent of Police Varinder Singh Brar, who along with other policemen visited the village, said a bottle of spray was lying near the body. A case has been registered and the body has been sent for a post-mortem. The police said prima facie it appeared that Satpal had been strangled.

Ferozepur
Woman, son killed in road accident
: A woman and her three-year-old son were killed and two others were injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was allegedly hit by a truck near Jiwa Arian village on the Ferozepur-Fazilka road. The deceased have been identified as Santo Bai and Gagandeep Singh. All the victims belonged to Bahmniwala village. A case has been registered against Jaspal Singh of Sindaur village in Sangrur.

Ropar
Ambulance driver held for raping girl
: The local police has arrested 22-year-old Gurpreet Singh, an ambulance driver, for allegedly raping a minor. Station House Officer (SHO) Manvir Singh said in her complaint, the 15-year-old victim had stated that Gurpreet, a resident of ward No. 1, had been violating her for the past one year. He had been threatening her of dire consequences. He intruded into the victim’s house last evening, but escaped after the girl’s parents spotted him. The accused was today produced in a local court, which sent him to judicial custody.
