SSP Raj Jit Singh Hundal said a case under Section 460, 458 of the IPC had been registered against some unidentified persons at the Gurdaspur city police station. “We are exploring all angles and hope to arrest the assailants soon,” he added. A senior police officer claimed that the crime rate had dropped significantly in the past few months and that the incident had created a fear among the residents. Following the incident, the police has laid nakas at various places in the city. In another incident, a man was allegedly beaten to death at Zaffarwal village today. A police official disclosed that Gurcharanjit Singh had come from Sri Hargobindpur to help his daughter ,who was being tormented by her drug addict husband and when he confronted his son-in-law, Gurcharanjit was thrashed by him and his friends, following which he died. A case under Section 302, 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC was registered at the Dhariwal police station. The police has arrested one of the accused while a manhunt has been launched to nab other three accused.
