All lined up
As long as the audience has a reason to buy tickets and as long as they walk out with smiles, it is all okay. There are a couple of parameters that producer and director duo Vikram Dhillon and Puneet Sira have set for themselves and within these well-defined boundaries, they are out to churn out, "new and different cinema." "We are here to raise the bar," Puneet Sira, emphasises on the creative rhetoric, makes his aims and objectives more specific, while announcing Eyeline Entertainment, a Chandigarh-based production house. He elaborates, "Eyeline is just a technical term used in production for the direction in which an actor looks. It seemed apt and so we named it so." He adds, "We'll be actively involved in the production house and running the office ourselves."
Director's den Brought up in Canada, Vikram Dhillon, film producer, director, actor and former VJ, has to his credit films like Pinky Moge Wali after having hosted television shows V Challenge, Cool Maal and Late Night V. It's a vast spectrum of experience that Vikram brings while donning the hat of a director. "The first venture of the production house too will be directed by me. We'll be announcing everything about it in a couple of days," he says. There's nothing else they are willing to divulge about the "exciting venture," for which the shooting begins in the next ten days. He says, "As of now, we are holding back to what the film is, the star cast will be and what subjects we are dealing with. We'll speak about all of that when the time comes." He adds, "All I can assure is that it will be a Punjabi film with a novel story line." Lens
eye So they aren't giving into the herd mentality, where every singer turns an actor? Laughs Puneet, "There are singers who are great actors while not every actor can sing; If a singer cannot act, we won't go ahead with him," says Puneet Sira, the British and Bollywood film director, producer, screenwriter and actor, who has a long career in the industry and a longer list of films to his credit, starting with Kisaan, Jai Veeru, I-Proud to be an Indian et al. "I left England fifteen years ago. Usually people go there, but we've come back." He seems to defy the trends in ways more than one. "There's a certain attitude towards regional cinema - everything works. This attitude we won't tolerate," he makes his focus clear while keeping his options open. "We'll continue making Hindi films, but over the next couple of years our focus will be on Punjabi cinema." His wife Vekeana Dhillon, Vikram's sister, a screenwriter, will look after the story-telling aspect of things having written Pinky Moge Wali, I-Proud to be an Indian, and Jai Veeru and Kisaan. The medium to higher range budget films might fall in the mainstream commercial genre, but there's a fine and clear line segmenting their work. "We'll have songs, dance numbers and glamour but there will be a strong story-line. We'll make sure it's different." Somehow or the other! manpriya@tribunemail.com

Fight off fat
We have had enough of the long winter. The delicacies we indulged in, woollies and long boots we sported with style; sleeping longer, giving a miss to the evening exercise because the days were short and more!
Officially, it's spring, a peep out of the office window does confirm the same, yet, before we know it, sun would be out making it impossible to hide the rolls of fat we have gathered around (if only you fall in our category) in long tops, smart jackets and dark, long coats! So if a slimmer you is what you have been aspiring for, we have some tips. If you are overweight (divide your height (in feet) by weight (in pounds), you are overweight if it falls in the range of 25-29.9), Dr Swapana Singla, cosmetologist and obesity consultant at JP Hospital at Zirakpur, puts up a simple formula, "Reduce your meals to half and exercise regularly." Well, simple it is but needs firm resolve to follow it. And, by exercise, you can't get away with just a leisurely walk; that's all right to maintain weight and even in that case it has to be a brisk one. To lose weight, be ready to run. "Running, followed by jogging or cycling (out in the open not standing), are the best options," says Dr Swapana. To fight the tummy fat, scrunches are the best. "Start with 10, take them up to 100," she says. If only we regulate our diet, we can do wonders believes beauty and diet consultant Betty Nangia. "Where we usually miss the point is observing the right time for the meals. Start eating in the morning and eat small meals spread through the day. Seven in the evening, it should be shutters down," she says. Betty is all for individualised meal and exercise plans addressing peculiar problem areas. "Exercise is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle," insists Betty. If you are ready to let technology fight the fat for you, Dr CS Sandhu recommends Ultrasonic Cavitation. If you have stubborn fat that refuses to go, an hour's sitting promises reduction for a particular area from two to four centimetres. "The ultrasonic operators break the fat cells. This therapy is tested and has no negative side effects," says Dr CS Sandhu from Chandan Hospital, Mohali. In the last one year that he has been practicing this, he claims a success rate of 85 per cent! It is available for Rs 2,500 per sitting. "There are plenty of procedures to fight the modern-day menace of obesity and they are pretty much safe," says Dr Swapana, only to add, "These only help if one is keeping the diet and exercise regime." Ready to fight it off? mona@tribunemail.com

We are the world…
Time galvanises evolution, which stirs momentum in revolution. There's no denying the fact that in India, evolved an artist of intense calibre, Amrita Sher-gil. Her vision was taken forth like a pacing wheel that left the trails of history behind. We-a group of Indian contemporary women artists, honours her contribution to the modern art by organising a month-long exhibition.
On Monday, WE held the tenth Annual Art Exhibition of Women Artists that will continue till March 8. "We organised this exhibition to commemorate the birth anniversary of Amrita Sher-gil and also to promote women artists. Our group had organised a painting competition during the month-long exhibition. From over 80 people, who participated in this competition from across the nation, we short listed over 57 artists and the best five have been awarded with cash prize and certificates," says Sadhana Sangar, the president of the group. She further adds, "The judges for this competition were Malkit Singh, Madan Lal and Bheem Malhotra, who are much decorated names in the region's art circuit." As she shows around the award-winning works of the five artists, the first that beholds your attention is the one that won the third prize in the competition, the backdrop of the painting was that of the freshly pealed planks of wood. It looks as real as seeing reality through a framed window, not to mention the insects, lady bird, a broken necklace and a torn piece of a newspaper that add character to the background. "Geeta Ramasesh has done wonders in this work!" remarks Sadhana. However, the Red Mask, made by Satwinder Kaur, who won the first prize, exudes much drama and strength. Meanwhile, other paintings include The Mysterious, Ganesh, and the ones by Prabhdip Brar, who was awarded the second prize. Sadhana Sangar, Ritu Mehra, Promila, Alka Kalra and Asha Sharma among many others are also exhibiting their works. In nature's bliss Ashwini Bhole, a Mumbai-based artist, who has been awarded with the third prize, says, "I seek inspiration from nature, especially its four elements-moon, water, stones and sky. " Ashwini has been pursuing art for over 14 years now and she has exhibited her works across the nation. "Art is an indirect expression of ones own self," she says. Portrait of an artist Shivangi maintains that art comes naturally to her and it is courtesy this passion that her belief in becoming an artist strengthened over the years. "Though I studied the art of making sculptures from the Government College of Art, Chandigarh after which I pursued law, I always wanted to paint. I like to paint realism," she says. Her painting of Amrita Sher-gil hangs steadily on the front wall of the Sobha Singh Art Gallery.

Salute to women
Divya Dutta This one is dedicated to all you lovely women out there! Not that we need a day to celebrate being a woman, one should feel blessed being one. Yes, even in today's time. I was among the seven women honoured for being the savvy cover girls. Those women are not about how strong or powerful they are. They are all normal women, strong yet vulnerable, sensitive but who made mistakes and who fell only to rise! Rise above the situation. Rise with grit and determination and live by what they believe in. I think all women, even in their most unassuming ways, are like that. The women who underestimate themselves for being housewives, but who are the backbones of the family. And those who balance their work and family beautifully, not letting either feel neglected! Salute to these superwomen! And to those who, despite the prevalent unsafe circumstances, still bravely go about their daily work with courage and strong will! When I am asked what would I like to wish the women on International Women's Day, I just say this time I'd like the men to wish us women a very happy Women's Day and appreciate, acknowledge, respect and protect us! Also make the surroundings safer and happier for us to give it back in double. This time don't see a woman just as a sex object to be teased, or feel more powered if she's standing alone. Bring out your male protective instincts and stop those who try to offend. Yes, be there for women, make them feel secure and see how it reflects on society. So, all you gentlemen out there! From you to us-a very happy Women's Day. (Dutta is a Bollywood actor) |

Jackky's Gangnam Style
Jackky Bhagnani is a good dancer and he shows off his moves in the Hindi version of PSY's Gangnam Style. The song has been shot all over the streets of Mumbai with huge crowds in the backdrop for Priyadarshan's Rangrezz.
The team of Rangrezz nailed the choreography and shooting of the song over three days and it looks fresh. The song was launched officially at Dharavi, Asia's biggest slum settlement, and the Dharavi Rocks which is a local music and dance project also performed to the song with Jackky. About the song and dancing to it, Jackky says, "The process of buying the rights for the song was a long one and I cannot believe that we have actually completed shooting it and launched it too! It was such a blast to give it a Mumbaiya street twist. We had to be careful while planning the song because it is important to the movie and it had to be a little different from the original and yet keep the essence. We had a big team that brainstormed on the song: the look, the feel, the moves, the lyrics and music, and the locations and we have done a very good job of it.' Jackky plays a typical Maharashtrian middle-class boy in Rangrezz so the song has been shot to connect with his character. The Dharavi Rocks has kids from the slums and some are even rag-pickers who danced with Jackky. They are not formally trained but have a natural flair and talent for dancing. They were excited with this big opportunity and platform because it will bring them lots of exposure and even more opportunities. Rangrezz releases on March 21. Dancing king: Jackky Bhagnani

Who's the daayan?
The first poster of Emraan Haashmi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Huma Qureshi starrer Ek Thi Daayan is out. Like the title suggests, the film is about a daayan while Emraan Hashmi plays her victim. Although Konkona Sen Sharma and Kalki Koechlin have frightening expressions on their faces, Huma Qureshi looks rather afraid in the poster. Is that, in anyway a hint as to who plays the daayan in the movie and who doesn't? Well, as far as the plot goes… Emraan Hashmi plays a magician. His constant hallucinations drift him apart from his girlfriend Tamara. His childhood and family is haunted by a daayan. It destroys his family and also promises to return to haunt Emraan. When Emraan moves on in life, the irresistible Lisa Dutt enters and makes his love life and career a hell.
Emraan Hashmi is convinced that she is the daayan. But the question is, is she the real Daayan? Or is Emraan is just losing his mind? A joint production of Ekta Kapoor and Anurag Kashyap, this deadly horror will haunt you on April 18.

Shahid to meet Sylvester
It seems Prabhu Deva is mesmerized with film titles that starts with the alphabet 'R' and has a jingle in the name. So, after Rowdy Rathore, it is Rambo Rajkumar. Initially, it was heard that the project was named Namak. But Prabhu Deva clarified, "I don't know how this name came about, but this is not it. The movie is for the masses, and we will come up with a suitable title."
He further added, "I can't say anything about the title. The producers have big plans to launch everything, including the film's name." The producer certainly proved that they had big plans. Rambo is a name globally associated with action and war. The legendary actor Sylvester Stallone made the name Rambo unforgettable. So what is the movie Rambo Rajkumar going to be about? Obviously it is an out and out action movie. Shahid Kapoor is going to be in the lead role. This will be interesting as the movie goers have always seen Shahid in romantic roles except in Kaminey (2009). Will Shahid be able to break away from his chocolate boy image and successfully don the character of an action hero? Well we will have to wait to get the answers. According to the grapevines he is already charged up about his role. A close source said, "He is looking forward to working with Prabhudheva. They seem to have become great friends of late." Also this will be the first time that Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor will be paired together. But the biggest news is that Prabhu Deva is trying to arrange a meeting between the original Rambo and Shahid.

Room for improvement
John Abraham was doing really well. Desi Boyz with Akshay Kumar did well, then his first production Vicky Donor was an all-round success and Race 2 was a blockbuster. Now, his solo film I Me Aur Main has tanked at the box office and has been panned by critics too. So the stakes are much higher now on Madras Cafe and Shootout at Wadala. John talks about learning from his mistakes.
I, Me Aur Main It was very clear from the beginning that it is a niche film. My target audience was modern women and men and it is an ode to modern women. Action Abraham I think that I am most popular in action roles. Action Abraham is more popular than any other Abraham. This film was not a mass entertainer. My other films were. Better
luck, next time I am shocked that the film has done so badly. It has been a big learning experience for me. I have learnt how bad timing and miscalculations play a part in one's life. I can assure everyone that these bad judgments and decisions will not be repeated in the future. Time and tide The biggest mistake was the timing of the release. I have a huge young fan base and most of them are busy
with exams at the moment. I will not let producers dictate release dates to me. I could have vetoed it but I agreed to this date and my worst fears came true. I will be more careful with the release dates of Madras Cafe and Shootout at Wadala. On
a promotional spree I went all out to promote this movie but everything was done too late and I feel that was not enough. The film had been in the making for a long time and we just pushed the release to a bad time.

Back with a bang
Rohit Roy returned to the small screen with Zee TV’s Hitler Didi. The show did average business, but is now getting better TRPs. Rohit talks about his career, role and hobbies.
Why did you choose Hitler Didi? TV has always been my first love even while I was doing films. Honestly, nothing worthwhile was offered to me. Hitler Didi gave me an edgy, exciting role of Major Kabir Choudhry, so I couldn't say no. Your entered the show with a cool action scene. How was it? Yes, it was fun to do the action sequences though it did seem a bit filmy. It was shot very well in the given time-frame. I was very impressed and happy with the results. After your entry into Hitler Didi, the TRPs have improved. How do you feel? I feel extremely happy that the audiences have accepted me in this role and one obviously feels thrilled to hear the positive comments about my character in the show. Out of all the roles that you have done which one has satisfied you as an actor the most? On TV, Karan from Zee’s popular political drama Sarkaar was a great role. What are your hobbies? I love travelling, watching movies and clicking pictures. How do you maintain your physique? I have a balanced lifestyle, especially diet and workouts.

limited edition
This is dedicated to those to whom $10,000 price tag on the Legacy Collection of Coach Alligator bag would make absolute sense! But when has luxury been about sensibility or satisfaction? It's always been about psychology. The hi-end labels might come with a price tag but they take you along on an ego trip. Our new column-Limited Edition-takes you on a journey and a similar trip, stands true to its nomenclature and brings you a label each week, as exclusive and as limited as they come. The label While it could get alphabetical with an Armani Exchange but we choose Burberry for no other reason than for the fact that the iconic fashion house, presented their latest collection at the just concluded London Fashion Week. It all started in the year of1856 when the 21- year-old dressmaker Thomas Burberry founded the brand. The first store ever opened on Winchester Street followed by another in London. The rest, as they is history and today, the British luxury giant has already celebrated a decade on the London Stock Exchange. Does it get any bigger? USP While the collection may have had its share of fans and critics, the brand continues its bull dog grip on the classes. The patrons might swear by it all, the clothing line, the accessories and fragrances but the coat is what they are best known for. They've taken the art of wearing trench to an altogether different level. The clothing item that the brand is renowned for and that was designed by its founder Thomas Burberry. When he invented gabardine, little did he know it would become synonymous with adventure, action and aviation. Worth mentioning is the distinctive tartan pattern, the criss-cross vertical and horizontal bands involving the tan, black and red colours. The Burberry Plaid, unfortunately, remains one of the widely copied trademarks. Designer speak
While they may be doing a fine job with the balancing act, trying to retain history and incorporate modernity, there is one thing that the brand has never failed to capitalise on, their USP. The Trench coats! "Burberry is a fine luxury brand for fashion conscious people. For people who like to add a subtle statement to their style," opines Nidhi Bajaj, of the label Blush. "What I like about them is their subtlety and distinctiveness. A design philosophy I try to incorporate in my designs. And the detailing that they use is something I try to take inspiration from." She adds, "My upcoming summer collection will include trench coat dresses in polkas and floral prints. Also, some nice checks and silk chiffons for shirts and kaftans." Her colour palette includes lots of neons, neon pink, greens, white and earthy tones. Back to the brand basics and she adds, "I own a couple of Burberry scarves and t-shirts." Brand buff There's no dearth of aficionados in the city, who wear a Burberry fragrance before they set on, those who swear by its clothing line don't come rare either. Henna Singh, ICAI student, shares, "I absolutely love their Trench coats. And also their initiative The Art of Trench. I am yet to upload my picture on the website though." |

The soap story Sink into the freshness that cleanses your body and refreshes your mind. Nothing gets more relaxing than a bath — the warmth and coziness of a warm-water bath on a chilly winter evening or a cold water bath on a
hot-humid day. Adding to the experience the healthier way are 'chemical free' and handmade soaps. Available in a variety of fragrances and ingredients, these soaps not only cleanse, but relax as well. "These soaps do not let the skin get dry," says Arihana Abhi, a homemaker. " Besides, one feels good that one is using natural ingredients and little chemicals, which leaves the skin
moisturised," she adds. "One doesn't even need to apply any moisturisers or skin cream after using these soaps," says Sonali Arora from
Fabindia, Ludhiana. According to Saurabh Sharma from Forest Essentials, these soaps, although costlier, nourish the skin in a much better way. "The soaps we have use raw sugarcane or kokum butter as base. As these don't contain any chemicals, they don't form too much lather," he says. And these have no side effects. A variety of soaps, including rose, bitter-orange, tube-rose, neem, lavender, lime and ginger are available in the market. "These essences are prepared using cold press and are of very good quality," says Saurabh. Fragrances and ingredients, including shea butter and cocoa butter, are particularly good for winter. Some of the soaps have natural scrub, including seabuckthorn and aloofa, for cleansing the skin. "Spice and musk are preferred by men, while tea tree, neem and aloe vera are good for women," she says. "Soaps generally available in the market are high on chemicals, which are directly absorbed by the body from the skin. Although these might show faster results, they are harmful in the longer run. When one starts using handmade chemical-free soaps, it is hard to revert to normal soaps because of their quality," says
Mantosh from Forest Essentials. |

Toral set for Anandi’s role
In fact, the actress did not know that she was auditioning for the role! She says, “I was called for the audition, but I wasn’t told that it was for the role of Anandi. It was only later that I received a call saying that I was finalised to play Anandi. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, but at the same time I am super-excited to play the role.” She adds, “I believe in myself; moreover this is something that I was waiting for. And now that I have got the role, I am going to put my heart and soul into it. I am confident that the audience will accept me.” Toral, who started shooting for the role last weekend, does not believe in imitating others. Therefore, she plans to be herself as Anandi. “I will be myself,” she says. Though most of the cast of Balika Vadhu is new, Toral, does have a friend on the sets. As she avers, “When I was being introduced to the cast, I happened to meet Sriti (Jha) who is playing Ganga. I was really excited to see her. We are planning to have a blast together.”

The year ahead
If your birthday is March 6...
Ruled by number 6 and the planet Venus, you are lord of a pleasant personality, sharp memory and very fond of worldly pleasures. The year 2013 has the same number 6, which has nice vibrations with your date. It is a good year to enjoy time with family members. Better understanding and rapport among family members will make you happy. Your health needs care. You'll be so worried about your own concerns that you'll forget those of co-workers in your team and this will make you look selfish. You'll be very jealous of your partner's friends and will have difficulty hiding this. Act sensibly and do not make a scene. Make serious efforts to improve your personality. New contracts might look lucrative, but will not bring gains as desired - do not make hasty decisions when it comes to investing money. Stay away from people who are likely to influence you with bad habits. Love life will be controversial. Do not get disappointed if results don't come according to your expectations. Businessmen and professionals will have a comfortable year. Those in service will find April moving smoothly. Politicians will muster courage to brave the odds in the second half of March. This 2013 will be generally good for the artists, except for a few negligible hiccups. September is good for starting new ventures. Projects that have been slow till now will gain momentum. Disputes if any will get sorted out and bring a sense of relief to your mind. A brilliant June augurs fantastic rewards. Expect favourable opportunities for important purchases (cars, work tools etc.) If you work in a team with others, try to listen to your co-workers’ opinions. A more conciliating attitude will improve work relations. Personal property transactions can be dealt with utmost caution. Your income will balance expenditure. You will have to incur expenditure for children and for entertainment purposes. Unexpected loans will come to your rescue. Friends will be helpful, but demanding. You stay ahead of others because of your interest in new things and technology, but you need to control your tendency to behave in a moody manner at times. Mood: Confused, possibly by too much 'idealistic thinking.'
You share your birthday with Gurusha Kapoor (March 6, Mumbai), niece of Annu Kapoor, who started her career with Doordarshan. She also starred in Guddu Dhanoa’s movie Raja Leelai with Tabbu. She is a common face in various serials. Her Venus is weak, but due to Saturn’s position she will continue in her field for a long time.
