Man killed in accident:
A man was crushed to death by an overspeeding vehicle near Maharaja Palace on Ferozepur Road on Monday night. The man, who could not be identified, was reportedly on foot. 

I-T department conducts investigation at Ryan school : After a man caught with Rs 2 crore on Shambhu border claimed the money belonged to Ryan Public School, a team of the Income Tax department on Tuesday carried out investigations on the school premises. Harjit Singh Sohi, director, investigations, said, "A team today went to the school for cross-verification. The statement of the school authorities was recorded.”

2,368 shortlisted for Army test:
The Army Recruitment Office, Hisar, has shortlisted as many as 2,368 youths for the written test during its 12-day long recruitment rally that ended here today. Colonel Ranjan Minocha said as many as 24,745 candidates appeared before the recruitment board from four districts of Hisar Division.

Jat rally in Hisar today:
With a section of Jat reservation activists announcing a rally at Mayyar in Hisar on Wednesdayto observe the first death anniversary of Sandeep, who was killed in police firing on March 6 last year, the police has made elaborate arrangements to face the situation. A police spokesman said two companies of the district police had been kept in readiness. The police could call additional forces from neighbouring districts. The spokesman said two companies each from Hisar, Jind, Bhiwani, Fatehabad and Sirsa, the five districts coming under Hisar Police Range, had been trained by the Rapid Action Force (RAF) to deal with situations  like riots.

Man crushed to death by train
: Ramesh of Aasauda village was crushed to death by a train after he fell down at Aasauda railway station on Tuesday. The accident took place in the morning when Ramesh was going to Delhi by the train. As he boarded the moving train, he slipped and fell on the track. He was rushed to a hospital from where he was referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Escapee drug smuggler held:
A drug smuggler, who escaped from the police custody on Monday night, was arrested by CIA-I of the Karnal police within 24 hours. After the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shashank Anand suspended two policemen for dereliction of duty. Rinkoo was arrested with 50 gram smack on Monday and a case under the NDPS Act was registered against him. When he was taken to the Ram Nagar Police Station, he escaped from there. The SP constituted a special team of the CIA-I headed by Sub-Inspector Virender Singh to arrest the smuggler. The CIA-I team arrested him from Gandhi Nagar in Karnal. The police also arrested Kalu, who instigated Rinkoo to escape.

One killed in mishap:
Satbir Singh ( 23) died on the spot while his niece, Priya, and his sister’s brother-in-law, Vikram, sustained serious injuries when their motorcycle collided with a pick-up van on the Nahar- Kanina road, 35 km from here, on Tuesday. The mishap took place when Satbir was going from Kohard to Gurgaon while the van was coming from Kanina to Nahar. The van driver fled, leaving the vehicle.

Four girls hurt as  bus overturns
: Four girls from Mata Harki Devi College for Women, Odhan, were hurt when a bus of Mata Harki Devi Senior Secondary School overturned near Khai Shergarh village in Sirsa on Tuesday. The bus overturned after the driver lost control over it while trying to overtake a tractor trolley. Three injured girls were shifted to the General Hospital, Sirsa. Shamim Sharma, principal of the college, said three girls had already been discharged from the hospital.

Residents of Jawahar Nagar protested against water shortage and unscheduled power cuts here today. Residents rued that they were forced to travel long distances even in the winter chill to get water from springs.

DEHRADUN

Land for ESI hospitals: The Uttarakhand Government has decided to give on lease land for building ESI Hospitals for employees. These hospitals will come up at Pharma City (Selaqui), Sahastradhara, Jagatpura (Udham Singh Nagar) and Haridwar. The plan to build hospitals was stuck due to unavailability of land but now the government has decided to allocate land for the construction of these hospitals. The ESI will pay a token amount to the government in lieu of allotment of land. The hospitals will be built on 5 acres of land and will even go in for latest facilities. 

Report on irregularities to CM: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna today met KR Bhati , chairman of the Bhati commission of inquiry, looking into irregularities committed during the previous regime at the Secretariat . Bhati presented him the report regarding the financial and administrative irregularities in the working of the Uttarakhand Beej and Terai Development Corporation. The Chief Minister had a detailed discussion with Bhati and said that after studying the report that appropriate action would be taken in the matter. 

CPM members to attend rally: State secretary, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Vijay Rawat said the groups of party activists would participate in a mega rally on March 19 to raise voice on the issues of land, food, health, education and employment. He said party activists in different groups would also distribute pamphlets in various parts of the district and hold street plays. The members of the secretary circle and district dommittee would lead them. 

Elephant found dead: A female elephant was found dead in the Kolhuchaud forests of the Lansdowne forest division of Pauri district, official sources said here today. Forest guards recovered the carcass of the female elephant during a routine patrol on Monday evening, they said.
