22 samples fail quality test
Ludhiana, March 5
Twenty-two samples of food items collected by the district health department in 2011-2012 failed the purity test. The authorities have imposed a fine ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 50,000 on the shopkeepers from whom the samples were collected.

Now, file VAT-15 returns by March 15
Ludhiana, March 5
The last date for filing VAT 15 quarterly returns has been extended as many dealers were unsuccessful in uploading their returns due to server problems. Today was the last day for filing the quarterly returns, but much to the relief of the dealers, the date was extended till March 15.

11 students caught copying

Raj Kumar (18) committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in the Daba area today.

26-year-old hangs herself to death

A 26-year-old newlywed woman, who was allegedly being harassed for dowry by her sister-in-law, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her husband's house in Green Avenue at Daad village.

Debris dumped on a road at Jawahar Nagar Camp in Ludhiana. Even as encroachments from Jawahar Nagar Camp were removed by the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation almost a week ago, the debris still dot roads. It is learnt that the MC staff, that was deputed to carry out the work, was not adequate in comparison to the extent in which the massive demolition drive was carried out in the area.

35-year-old woman dies of burns
Ludhiana, March 5
A 35-year-old woman, who suffered serious burn injuries on February 20, and was undergoing treatment at the CMC Hospital, succumbed to her injuries today.

Encroachments removed from Sarabha Nagar
Ludhiana, March 5
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s tehbazaari wing today carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the Sarabha Nagar market, known as Kipps market. Considered one of the posh markets of the city, the area is full of encroachments, with a large number of shopkeepers illegally encroaching upon land in front of their shops.
