Accused Rakesh Jain CBI seals 16 bank accounts of I-T officer, kin
Chandigarh, February 7

A team of the CBI today sealed all bank accounts of income tax officer Rakesh Jain, who was arrested while allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a real estate agent on Tuesday. CBI sleuths had found 16 bank accounts and two lockers being operated by the accused, which have now been sealed.

3 youths thrash policeman, molest his constable wife
Chandigarh, February 7
A UT police constable was allegedly assaulted while his constable wife was eve-teased and molested by three occupants of a Swift car in the wee hours today. The incident occurred near the grain market roundabout in Sector 26 when the constable couple, who were in civvies, became a victim of the youths' rowdiness.

25 hurt as bus plunges into canal
Ambala, February 7
Twenty five persons sustained injuries when the bus in which they were travelling in fell into a canal near Malikpur village on Saha-Sahazadpur road today.

Panchkula MMS case hots up again
Panchkula, February 7
The Panchkula MMS case where some girls forcibly stripped another girl and made her MMS has again heated up in the wake of the National Commission for Women (NCW) calling for a report from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Panchkula, as to what action has been taken in the case. The case had hit the headlines in September 2011 after four girls made an MMS of another girl in Sector 5, Panchkula, and allegedly circulated it.

Litigants get stuck in lift

Panic struck as many as 11 litigants in the district courts today after a lift at the new complex in Sector 43 stopped midway with litigants inside. One of the persons called the fire brigade, which forwarded the complaint to the police control room.

CAT admits UT teachers’ plea against deputationists

The Central Administrative Tribunal has admitted a petition filed by UT teachers against long stay of deputationists in the UT Education Department. The case has been fixed for a hearing on March 27. As many as 39 government teachers have alleged in their petition that the department has became the dumping ground for the relatives of high-ups who were being accommodated without proper rules and regulation for the purpose.

The district police has arrested five drug peddlers involved in the sale of drugs and recovered 5 kg poppy husk, 16 gm smack, 5,000 intoxicant tablets and 4,000 capsule from their possession.

Ram Kumar Chaudhary Doon MLA's counsel withdraws security application

Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary's counsel today withdrew a security application, which was filed in the court citing a threat to the MLA's life as the reason. It was stated since an application for providing the B class facilities to the MLA has already been moved, if the court provides the same, then there will be no need to have security for the MLA in the jail.
