Fog-triggered pile-ups leave 84 injured
Ludhiana/Doraha/Mandi Ahmedgarh, January 30
Vehicles involved in a pile-up near Alamgir Dense fog this morning triggered three pile-ups in the district, leaving 84 persons injured. The injured were taken to hospitals from where 40 were discharged after being given first aid.

Relief for residents of core area
Ludhiana, January 30
Providing the much-needed relief to residents of the core area, which comprises the old city having more than 17 municipal wards, the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation today cleared the proposal to exempt residents of the area from paying development charges.

The mutilated body of a 13-year-old boy, Sarabjit, who was feared drowned in a pond, was found after the authorities drained out water from the pond at Mundian village here today.

Fastener units face closure
Ludhiana, January 30
Embroiled in various problems, the local fastener units are finding themselves in a severe crisis. Many small units are on the verge of closure while some have already stopped operations. With no definite procurement policy of the state government in sight, a large number of units have shifted to Kolkata while others are moving towards Gujarat. The state fastener manufacturers have planned to set up a cluster in Gujarat by investing Rs 1,000 crore initially.

Owners of the stalls, which have been shifted from platform No. 1 to ‘Musafirkhana’, wait for customers at the railway station in Ludhiana on Wednesday The star cast of the upcoming movie, "Stupid 7", was in the city today. Young actors of the movie, including Milind Gaba, Pukhraj Bhalla, Jasmeet Kaur, Karanjit Singh, Gunjit Cour, Sukhman Brar, Jannatpreet Kaur, Saibi Sodhi, who have played the lead characters in the movie, were in Ludhiana along with director of the movie Pali Bhupinder and other actors Jaswinder Bhalla, Ramnik Sandhu and Madhvi Malhotra.
