Pak troops cross LoC, kill two jawans brutally
 Jammu/New Delhi, January 8
 In a “grave provocation by the Pakistan Army”, its troops on Tuesday morning sneaked 500 metre into Indian territory in Poonch district and ambushed an Army patrol, killing two soldiers, whose bodies were reportedly mutilated. Sources said the Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistani Army crossed the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati area and carried out the strikes.

Akali leader’s son roughs up cops, held
Amloh, January 8
Nearly a month after an Assistant Sub-Inspector, who was trying to protect his daughter from harassment, was allegedly shot dead by a SAD leader in Amritsar, an SHO and his team came under attack from a son of Akali leader in Fatehgarh Sahib district on Monday night. The accused has been identified as Jagdish Singh, son of senior SAD leader Makhan Singh Lalka, who is in charge of party affairs in the Nabha constituency.

HP MLA surrenders in murder case
 Panchkula, January 8
Ram Kumar Chaudhary Newly-elected Doon legislator Ram Kumar Chaudhary, who was on the run after being named in the Jyoti murder case, surrendered before a Panchkula court here on Tuesday morning on a day he was scheduled to take oath. He was sent to six-day police remand. The MLA was wanted by the Haryana Police in connection with the murder of 24-year-old Jyoti, who hailed from a village in Hoshiarpur.

Munda quits, wants Assembly dissolved
Ranchi, January 8
 Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda today resigned and recommended the dissolution of the 82-member Assembly, leaving the situation wide open for the Governor to decide the future course of action. Earlier in the day, coalition partner JMM, in a letter to Governor Syed Ahmed, formally withdrew its support to the 28-month-old government pushing it into a minority. “I have submitted the Cabinet’s decision recommending the Governor to dissolve the House along with my resignation,” Munda told mediapersons

MIM legislator Owaisi held for hate speech
Hyderabad, January 8
 The firebrand Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator, Akbaruddin Owaisi, was today arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police for his alleged “hate speech”. The arrest came after a high drama when the 42-year-old MLA was taken to a government hospital here for medical examination. After the doctors’ team declared him fit for police interrogation, he was taken into custody.
