Maruti Suzuki told to repaint car, pay Rs 50,000
Chandigarh, January 8 The complainant has purchased a Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R from an Industrial Area-based dealer (the authorised dealer of Maruti Suzuki), in January 2011 at Rs 3,91,470. The complainant noticed that within 2-3 weeks of its purchase, small spots appeared on bonnet and rooftop of the car. This was brought to the notice of an adviser at an authorised service station, when the vehicle was taken to its premises for the first free service. However, the adviser did not mention the said defect on the job card on the pretext that the same would vanish after washing and teflon coating of the paint. The complainant, on the advice of the service centre adviser, got a Teflon coating done in the same month after paying Rs 1,406, but the problem subsisted. The complainant brought the matter to the notice of Maruti Suzuki officials in March and April, 2011, through feedback letters. Through these communications, the complainant requested the company officials to appoint an official to inspect the vehicle in question regarding the defect reported by him. The black spots intensified over these months. The matter was again reported to the dealer in June at the time of the second free service. However, the dealer failed to mention the said defects in the job card. Though the officials of the dealer said due to inherent manufacturing defect in the paint of the vehicle in question and because of its poor and substandard quality of paint, the base of the paint had started to show. Writing to the regional head office of Maruti Suzuki, the complainant received a call inviting him to get his vehicle inspected by an expert. Accordingly, the vehicle in question was taken to the workshop where again the officials refused to issue the job card to this effect, denying the request of the complainant. After making numerous representations and finding no response from their side, the complainant filed a case in the consumer forum. “We direct Maruti Suzuki to take back the vehicle in question and repaint all body parts again after peeling off the old paint at one of their manufacturing plants. Thereafter, all components shall again be fitted to the body shell in their assembly line and inspected to be okayed as per their original manufacturing standards. The company shall also pay an amount of Rs 50,000 as compensation on account of deficiency in service and having caused harassment to the complainant and Rs 10,000 as litigation costs,” the court announced. |
