Office-bearers appointed:Dr SS Chahal, Dr Shalini Gupta and Dr Virinder Singh have been appointed as Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Desh Bhagat University, Mandi Gobindgarh. While disclosing this, the Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, Dr Zora Singh, said the mission of the university was to impart value-based education with focus on research, innovation, creativity and to generate and nurture employability among students.

New Year celebrated:Desh Bhagat University celebrated the New Year by taking a pledge to work for the security and dignity of women in the country. The New Year was welcomed by holding a path (Recitation) of Sri Sukhmani Sahib. All members of the teaching and non-teaching staff participated in the religious programme and prayed for world peace.

24,000 alprazolam tablets seized:The Food and Drug Administration today raided an unlicenced premises of a medical store at Tohana town in the district and seized a large amount of intoxicants. Nripen Goyal, Senior Drug Control Officer, said 24,000 tablets of Alprazolam and some other drugs were seized from the unlicenced premises of Rajesh. The police has arrested Rajesh under the NDPS Act.

BSF havildar cremated:The mortal remains of Sunil Kumar (45), a havildar of 34 battalion of the BSF, were consigned to the flames with military honours at Rampuri village, 22 km from here, today. While a BSF contingent paid him a salute, Tehsildar Naurang Rai placed a wreath on the pyre on behalf of the administration. Sunil Kumar, who was posted at Panjipada in West Bengal, died in a road accident there on January 1 and his body was brought here today. Sunil is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
