Protesters seek death for Delhi rapists
Sirsa, December 22 Principals, teachers and students of various constituent colleges of the vidyapeeth demanded death penalty for the rapists. “It is shameful for the nation that girls are not safe in a metropolitan city like Delhi,” said Shamim Sharma, MD of the vidyapeeth. She said everyday people heard incidents of rape and sexual harassment of girls, including little ones, grown-ups or elderly women. Kurukshetra: Students and faculty members of Shri Krishna Institute of Engineering and Technology took out a procession and demanded strongest possible action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime. Rewari: Activists of the All India Mahila Sanskritik Sangthan today took out a procession and demanded death penalty for the accused, speedy justice, ban on obscenity and nudity and total elimination of political patronage to criminals. Kaithal: To check crime against women, SP Kuldip Singh Yadav has directed the SHOs in the district to personally visit educational institutions and ask the principals to put up complaint box. He has also issued directions for setting up of women help desks in all police stations and to start patrolling in civil dress accompanied by female staff outside women institutions to keep a watch on movement of anti-social elements. Ambala: DCP (Urban) Ashok Kumar has asked girl students to be bold and inform the matter to their teachers and parents if they were harassed. The DCP has also asked the bus operators to keep the lights inside the vehicle on during night and remove tinted glasses and curtains from the buses. Despite police issuing warnings, a number of buses of various colleges and schools were found with tinted glasses and curtains. The police failed to take action against them this morning. |

Minor girl’s marriage prevented
Fatehabad, December 22 The girl, aged 11 from the Raj Nagar area of Tohana town, was to be married to a 13-year-old boy from Bathinda in Punjab, said prohibition officer Rekha
Agarwal. The marriage was to be solemnised on December 25. Rekha went to the Ram Nagar locality and met the girl’s father. It was found that the mother of the girl was a cancer patient and she wanted her daughter to be married during her lifetime. When the girl’s parents were told that they were violating the law, they agreed to put off the marriage. |

2 held for killing black buck
Hisar, December 22 Officials of the Wildlife Department raided the house of the poachers after receiving a tip-off and found them cooking meat of the animal last night. Shakti Singh, Divisional Forest Officer (Wild Life) informed The Tribune that a farmer Satyawan and his worker Ram Chander had killed a black buck by shooting it with the former’s gun. The police arrested them and recovered the gun used in the crime and the skin of the animal. Veterinary surgeons Sanjay Arora, Ashok Chaudhry and Deepak Kaushik conducted the postmortem of the buck and extracted pieces of bullets from the body of the hunted animal. Shakti Singh said the two accused were today produced before the Environment Court in Kurukshetra, where they were sent to judicial custody for 14 days. Black buck is a rare species of deer, which is facing the threat of extinction. |
Cane growers protest
Sonepat, December 22 The cane growers were demanding increase in the procurement prices of the sugarcane. Kartar Singh of Badwasni and Ishwar of Juan said compared to the rising prices of farm inputs, procurement prices of Rs 232 to 250 per quintal were not remunerative. |
