A 3,094-page Panjab University Senate meeting agenda, weighing 11.5 kg, is giving anxious moments to senators. Perhaps for the first time in the history of the university, the senators would be carrying the voluminous agenda for the meeting scheduled for December 22. A nine-month delay in holding the meeting has made the agenda lengthier and bulkier.

Reacting to a complaint filed by a city-based lawyer on the basis of a Chandigarh Tribune report, which highlighted the shortage of doctors attending to 2,500 patients per day at GMSH-16, the National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the UT Health Secretary on the matter.

Ajmer-based Asha Manwani (55). The annual Neerja Bhanot Award was instituted in 1990 in the memory of the brave senior flight purser, Neerja
Bhanot, who saved hundreds of lives while sacrificing her own, during a Pan Am plane hijack at Karachi Airport in September 1986. The Award consists of Rs. 1.50
lakh, a citation and a trophy.

Fire breaks out at house in Dhanas

A 70-year-old man sustained injuries when a fire broke out in a house at the Housing Board Colony in Dhanas on Sunday morning. The injured was identified as Joginder Singh.

Bomb shell found at Daria village

Panic struck Daria village near the Industrial Area this evening after a live bomb shell was found from near the jungle area. The bombshell, weighing around 40 kg and over one feet in length, was enough to cause damage within a radius of three to four km.
2 policemen injured

Two policemen on a motorcycle were injured after a ca hit their motorcycle at the roundabout of Sector 7, 8, 18 and 189 last night. SI Jaiveer and constable Suresh posted at the Sector 11 police station were on the motorcycle.

The PGIMER campus remained lit up with the visit of its prestigious alumni who gathered at their alma mater to celebrate the first-ever alumni meet of the institution. Among those 600 who attended the celebrations on Saturday and Sunday were many who brought laurels to the institution by making a mark in the medical field wherever they went. While some have emerged as pioneers in the field of research, there were others currently working as faculty members at some of the most renowned medical education institutions of the world.

Plaques installed by officials for self-glorification has blotted the City Beautiful. The irony is that after installing the plaques, the officials do not even bother to visit the areas again. Most of the parks are a shambles. Nothing is being done to maintain these. A group of residents should hand over a memorandum to the Administrator, requesting him to do the needful.

Education Department gears up for direct cash transfer

The UT Administration is gearing up for the direct cash transfer system expected to start form January 1. The Education Department has started the process of making Aadhar cards as well as opening bank accounts for the beneficiaries of several government schemes and scholarships, studying in schools and institutions of higher education.

Former international athlete attends alumni meet at PGGCG-11

Many old students of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG), Sector 11, reached the campus today to participate in the alumni meet.
Kamaljeet Sandhu Kooner, who graduated from the college in 1969, was one such alumna.
Within just two years, she went on to be honoured with a Padma Shri award in 1971, making the college proud.

Cultural fiesta
Chandigarh: The Annual Cultural Fiesta 2012 of Manav Mangal High School was organised in the auditorium of Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali. The programme commenced with a prayer, sung by nursery students, followed by a dance performance by class I students. Nursery students also captivated the audience with their garba dance performance. A patriotic dance item by kindergarten students made the audience proud of being Indians. Students also enacted the fairy tale of Cindrella in a unique and innovative way through a medley of the latest movie songs.
