Sugarcane prices:
The state government has fixed the State Agreed Price of advanced, medium and the late variety of sugarcane at Rs 250, Rs 240 and Rs 235 per quintal, respectively, for the crushing season 2012-13. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Sugarcane Control Board here.

Panel formed for NRI meet: Punjab will use the platform of the three-day NRI Sammellan being organised by the Punjab Government from January 3-5 next year to impress upon foreign entrepreneurs to invest in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal has said. The Punjab Government has constituted a publicity committee for the meet, to be headed by NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

Health scheme relaunched: The Bhai Ghanhya Trust has relaunched the Bhai Ghanhya Sehat Sewa Scheme for another year from November 20 onwards, a statement from the CM’s office said. A beneficiary is entitled to cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh in any approved government hospital in Punjab or Chandigarh.

Man crushed to death:
A man employed with the Home Guard, Pawan Kumar, died after falling under a bus in Malout on Saturday. A resident of Fazilka, he was trying to board the bus when he fell and was overrun by it. He was returning to his residence from Kolianawali village.

Rohtak RTA gets new secretary:
The Haryana Government has posted Om Parkash, Secretary, RTA, Rewari and Jhajjar, as Secretary, RTA, Rohtak, vice AS Mann. Om Prakash will also hold the additional charge of Secretary, RTA, Hisar, against a vacant post. The government has entrusted the charge of the post of Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Panipat, to City Magistrate, Panipat, instead of Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil).

Designations changed: A spokesman of the Women and Child Development Department said at the district level, Integrated Child Development Project Officer had been re-designated as District Progamme Officer, Women and Child Development Department. Similarly, at the block level, Child Development Project Officer had been re-designated as Women and Child Development Project Officer.

Body found hanging:
The body of Ganesh Dutt Sharma (24) of Ghattewaal village near Naina Devi was found hanging from a tree near Dharot jungle on Friday. The police took the body into its possession and also his mobile phone and keys of his motorcycle (HPRE-2779) which was found behind nearby bushes. The police is said to have found his photos with a girl and also his message on message box draft which says that no one is responsible for his death and that he is taking his life out of his own will. Ganesh was earlier employed at Nalagarh and had shifted to Ropar.

Three get six-month jail: Judicial Magistrate Vishal Bhamnotra has sentenced Lal Singh, his wife Kusum and son Anu of Amarsingh Pura village near Ghumarwin to imprisonment for six months and additional fines under Sections 325, 323, and 506, IPC. Government counsel Suresh Kumar Thakur had told the court that all the accused were constructing a tank on their neighbour Surjeet Singh’s land on October 9, 2010. When Surjeet and his father objected, they beat them up and injured Surjeet.

Driver robbed of taxi, cash:
Sanju, alias Chander Shekhar, a taxi driver from Pathankot, was injured by five persons who fled with his Indica taxi on Friday night.The persons hired a taxi (PB01-0955) for Chamunda temple. After visiting the temple, they requested the driver to take them sight-seeing. When they neared Nagri village, they attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, robbed him of cash and driving licence, pushed him into a gorge and fled with his taxi. DSP, Palampur, Manmohan Singh, along with his team, reached the spot and shifted the driver to the
Civil Hospital.

Stone of school hostel laid:
Chief Minister PK Dhumal laid the foundation stones of the Thakur Ram Singh Hostel in Saraswati Vidya Mandir School and the state office of the Himachal Shiksha Samiti at the Him Rashmi Parisar, Vikasnagar, here on Saturday. Dhumal also released the annual magazine Him Garima on the occasion.

Cheating case against two:
Manager of South Indian Bank Murlidharan has filed a complaint against Vijay Khushwaha and Sanjay Minocha with IGP, Dehradun Range, Sanjay Gunjiyal. In his complaint, he alleged that both had withdrawn Rs 4 crore each from the bank through fraudulent ways. The matter is being investigated. A case has been registered.

Dharna by villagers: The dharna being staged by Kunao villagers in Rishikesh, seeking the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, entered 24th day on Saturday. Ashish Payal, who led the dharna, asserted that the Kunao villagers were getting support from various organisations working for the implementation of the Act in the country. He said the Kunao protest would be further intensified in the days to come. The protesters have already announced to convert their dharna into an indefinite hunger strike from November 26.

Gurpurb celebrations: The three-day Gurpurb celebrations will begin on November 25 at Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. A nagar kirtan procession will be taken out in the city tomorrow that will start from Patelnagar Gurudwara at 1 pm and will culminate at Gurdwara Shri Guru Singh Sabha, Saharanpur Road chowk. Kirtan darbar will take place at Gobind Nagar Gurudwara, Race Course, on the subsequent day. Bhai Baldev Singh from Amritsar and Gurpreet Singh from Jalandhar will be reciting shabads.

FDI opposed: The CPI and CPI (M) have strongly opposed 51 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in the retail sector. At a joint meeting held in Dehradun, CPI leader Samar Bhandari and CPI (M) leader Vijay Rawat said the Left parties would be staging a massive demonstration in Dehradun on November 29 in opposition to the introduction of the FDI in retail sector.

Volleyball tournament: DAV(PG) College, Dehradun, on Saturday won the volleyball tournament organised by HNB Garhwal University. DAV college beat Kotdwar Degree College in the final match.

Kho kho team selection: The selection for the state team that will participate in the 48th Senior National Kho Kho Championship will take place at Lakshman Das College on November 25. Viresh Yadav, general secretary, Uttarakhand Kho Kho Association, said 48th the championship would take place at Baramati in Maharashtra.
